Juvenile Stakes Races, All-Stakes Pick 4 Highlight Sunday Card at Lone Star Park

Who doesn’t like an all-stakes Pick 4 with a $50,000 guaranteed pool?

If that sounds appealing to you, then be sure to check out Sunday’s race card at Lone Star Park, which will culminate with four stakes races at varying distances that comprise the late Pick 4. Let’s take a quick look at the action….

Race 7: Assault Stakes

Six Texas-breds will travel a mile in this $50,000 event, with Supermason the clear morning line favorite at 4-5. The son of Grasshopper has won eight of his 13 starts at Lone Star, including five stakes races, and scored a gate-to-wire win in the 2016 Assault Stakes. But if Supermason fails to bring his A-game, there are a couple of other runners that could take advantage—Galactica is an accomplished stakes winner at Lone Star and has never finished out of the exacta over the local main track, while Rumpole won three stakes races at Sam Houston and Lone Star last year.

Race 8: Texas Thoroughbred Futurity (Fillies Division)

Silvercents caught eyes with an impressive 4 ¾-length maiden win sprinting five furlongs at Lone Star on July 1st, and the daughter of Goldencents is favored to win again while racing over the same track and distance on Sunday. Silver Moon Rising won nicely at Lone Star in May and will add Lasix for her second career start, while Adventurous Lady comes off a strong second-place finish in an unrestricted maiden race at Churchill Downs and should not be underestimated.

Race 9: Valor Farm Stakes

Fillies and mares will sprint six furlongs with a $50,000 purse on the line in the Valor Farm Stakes. Those are certainly ideal conditions for the six-year-old veteran Prada’s Bling, who won this race by 1 ½ lengths last summer. She’s been competing with strong success at Fonner Park this year and is the 5-2 favorite to score a repeat win in the Valor Farm, though Zippit E and Kat’s Infatuation—second and third behind Prada’s Bling last year—will be back with an eye on turning the tables.

Race 10: Texas Thoroughbred Futurity (Colts & Geldings Division)

The Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen will send out the recent Churchill Downs maiden winners Stupify and B. B. Dude in this five-furlong sprint, and both figure to attract significant wagering support. But the 2-1 morning line favorite is actually the local runner Wakefield, who fired off an 87 BRIS speed figure when breaking his maiden sprinting 4 ½ furlongs at Lone Star Park in May. Lullaby Bling, a winner going five furlongs at Lone Star last month, is another logical contender.
