Presque Isle Downs: Race 1: $15,000 Maiden Claiming (one mile on Tapeta, 1:30 p.m. ET)

#5 Richard Hooty (3-1) placed fourth in a pair of maiden special weights over this track and distance last year. He’s dropping in class and adding Lasix for his 2022 debut, setting the stage for an improved performance. Keep in mind, hot trainer S. Matthew Kintz wins at an impressive 28% rate with horses returning from layoffs of 90 days or more.

#2 Alpha Predator (6-5), runner-up over this track, distance, and class level on May 23, can battle with the class-dropping Kentucky shipper #3 Maqamat (5-2) to complete the exacta and trifecta. The latter ticket aims to capitalize on the Trifecta Tuesday promotion.

After spending his first 12 starts competing on turf and synthetic, #6 Fulco (6-1) relished switching to dirt for a $5,000 claimer at Belterra Park last month. He dashed to the lead, carved out the pace, and kicked away to dominate by 5 1/2 lengths with a career-best 82 Brisnet Speed rating.

Fulco is stepping up in class at Horseshoe Indiana, but if he’s found a new home on dirt, he can spring a surprise against logical favorite #3 Romped (2-1), who earned an 82 Brisnet Speed rating when nabbing a $10,000 claimer at Horseshoe Indiana last time out.

Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 2: $6,250 Maiden Claiming (six furlongs, 3:01 p.m. ET)

#7 Waris (2-1) has placed second over this track and class level in her last two starts, earning respectable Brisnet Speed ratings of 68 and 66. She has some tactical speed and has already defeated key Tuesday rival #1 Kenzie Lou (7-2), so we’ll count on Waris to get the job done in her third start against this caliber of competition.

The class-dropping duo of #2 Mose Definitely (5-1) and #3 Bumper Girl (3-1) can battle for exacta honors.

Horseshoe Indianapolis, Race 4: $714 Pick 5 carryover (4:03 p.m. ET)

If you’re looking for a non-jackpot carryover to play on Tuesday, you might want to check out the 50-cent Pick 5 at Horseshoe Indianapolis, which features a $714 prize pool.

The wager spans Race 4 through Race 8, a sequence featuring 53 entries (averaging 10.6 per race) and 120,960 possible outcomes before scratches. It’s a challenging Pick 5 to analyze, but we’ll try to simplify the process by highlighting a pair of possible singles.

Race 4: Maiden Special Weight (six furlongs): #3 Z Zs Red (2-1)

Z Zs Red has been a picture of consistency competing against maiden special weight company at Horseshoe Indianapolis. Since finishing fourth in her debut last summer (beaten by a trio of next-out winners), Z Zs Red has put up three consecutive runner-up finishes, including a nose defeat sprinting five furlongs on April 27.

None of Z Zs Red’s Tuesday rivals have ever put up a Brisnet Speed rating higher than 65, so Z Zs Red—with figures of 70 and 75 this year—is easily the fastest filly in the field. She’s adding blinkers for her third run of the season and brings plenty of tactical speed to the table, an advantage since Tuesday’s field doesn’t contain much pace on paper. There’s a strong chance Z Zs Red will get out in front and cruise home on top at a short price, stamping the daughter of Mr. Z as a viable single.

Race 7: Allowance (six furlongs): #1 Cibolo (9-5)

Cibolo nearly won his debut dashing 5 1/2 furlongs against maiden special weight company at Horseshoe Indianapolis last year, charging hard from off the pace to finish second by a neck. Then, following a nine-month layoff, Cibolo dominated his May 11 comeback run over the same track, distance, and class level, charging from a couple lengths off the pace to beat a large field by 6 1/2 lengths.

This blowout victory produced an 80 Brisnet Speed rating, the highest figure in Tuesday’s field. Cibolo is facing some capable rivals, including the stakes-placed #8 Scotty’s On Edge (5-1), but a repeat of his maiden effort should be sufficient to land Cibolo in the winner’s circle.
