Keeler Johnson's picks and plays March 6

March 6th, 2023

Handicapper J. Keeler Johnson shares $85 worth of picks and plays for Monday, March 6 at Parx Racing, including a cold double wager.

Picks and Plays

Parx Racing: Race 6: $25,000 Starter Optional Claiming (one mile and 70 yards, 2:55 p.m. ET)

Perhaps the third time can be the charm for #1 Beachwalker (8-5). The six-year-old gelding has finished second twice over this track and class level, earning sharp 87 Brisnet Speed ratings on both Jan. 18 and Feb. 7.

Beachwalker is facing a small field that doesn’t appear overly deep on paper, so the stage is set for a breakthrough victory. We’ll single Beachwalker to start a double wager, then key him over recent $12,500 claiming winner #6 Maxim Moment (10-1) in the exacta.

Selections

  • #1 Beachwalker (8-5)
  • #6 Maxim Moment (10-1)
  • #4 Candy for Carmel (3-1)

Wagers

  • $20 Double: 1 with 1
  • $10 Exacta: 1 with 6
    Total: $30

Parx Racing: Race 7: Main Line S. (one mile and 70 yards, 3:24 p.m. ET)

#1 Girl Trouble (4-5) finished second in the Ruthless S. at Aqueduct last month, but returning to Parx can trigger a rebound. Prior to her New York raid, Girl Trouble won three straight races at Parx by a minimum of 5 1/4 lengths, including the Future Stars Filly Division S. and Parx Futurity.

A typical performance from Girl Trouble should be sufficient to outsprint #6 Social Success (9-2) to the winner’s circle. We’ll single Girl Trouble to conclude our double wager, then add a cold exacta.

Selections

  • #1 Girl Trouble (4-5)
  • #6 Social Success (9-2)
  • #4 Gold Medal Anna (6-1)

Wagers

  • $25 Exacta: 1 with 6

Parx Racing: Race 10: City of Brotherly Love S. (one mile and 70 yards, 4:51 p.m. ET)

#3 Fort Warren (9-5) showed promise in his debut sprinting 6 1/2 furlongs at Santa Anita, leading all the way to beat next-out winner Spun Intended with a 92 Brisnet Speed rating. Then, following a three-month layoff, Fort Warren stepped up in class for the seven-furlong San Vicente (G2) and finished third.

As a son of Curlin out of a Bernardini mare, Fort Warren is bred to shine while stretching out in distance. He’s set to race on Lasix for the first time (a 34% winning move for high-percentage trainer Brittany Russell), and he’s eligible to move forward in his second run of the season. There’s plenty to like about Fort Warren.

We’ll use #1 Ninetyprcentmaddie (5-2) and #7 Jackson Road (6-1) for exacta purposes.

Selections

  • #3 Fort Warren (9-5)
  • #1 Ninetyprcentmaddie (5-2)
  • #7 Jackson Road (6-1)

Wagers

  • $15 Exacta: 3 with 1,7 ($30)

Good luck!
