Keeler Johnson's picks and plays Nov. 1
Handicapper J. Keeler Johnson shares picks and plays for Tuesday, Nov. 1 at Mahoning Valley and Horseshoe Indianapolis, including a trifecta focusing on the Trifecta Tuesday promotion.
Today’s special offers from TwinSpires include:
- Trifecta Tuesday: Receive a 15% bonus on trifecta winnings (excluding stake amount; up to $25 per day) on every Tuesday through Nov. 29.
Picks and Plays
Mahoning Valley: Race 4: Maiden Special Weight (5 1/2 furlongs, 2:09 p.m. ET)
#3 Bad Boy Boogie (2-1) arguably went out too fast, too soon when favored to win his debut sprinting six furlongs over this class level at Thistledown. Bad Boy Boogie led by a minimum of 4 1/2 lengths through quick splits of :22.22, :46.02, and :59.48 before weakening in the final furlong to finish third.
Trainer Candace Huffman wins at a lofty 41% rate with horses beaten as the favorite in their previous start, so if Bad Boy Boogie rations his speed a bit better while cutting back to 5 1/2 furlongs, he’s eligible to fire a winning shot under hot jockey Luis Gonzalez.

Coupled entrymates #1 Swing State (3-1) and #1A Cavaletto (3-1) can battle with #5 Wetzel (5-2) to complete the exacta and trifecta. We’ll play the trifecta in order to capitalize on the Trifecta Tuesday promotion.
- $10 Exacta: 3 with 1,5 ($20)
- $5 Trifecta: 3 with 1,5 with 1,5 ($10)
Total: $30
Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 3: $5,000 Starter Allowance (5 1/2 furlongs, 3:32 p.m. ET)
#4 Silver Moon Road (7-5) has been absolutely on fire for hot trainer Randy Klopp, rattling off four consecutive gate-to-wire victories at Horseshoe Indianapolis. The four-year-old gelding has barely been challenged, winning every start by a minimum of 2 3/4 lengths.
Two of those victories came in $5,000 starter allowance sprints, so Silver Moon Road should be difficult (or impossible?) to defeat while sticking to the same class level on Tuesday. We’ll bet him over #3 Double Advantage (3-1) in a cold exacta.
- $25 Exacta: 4 with 3
Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 4: $10,000 Starter Optional Claiming (1 1/16 miles, 4:03 p.m. ET)
Could betting the fourth race at Horseshoe Indianapolis be as simple as favoring the red-hot duo of #2 Longleggedlaverne (8-5) and #6 Talk Radio (3-1)?
While horses are the most important factor in handicapping any race, many bettors look toward jockey statistics to strengthen their opinions and separate top contenders.@J_Keelerman helps you understand rider stats 👇 https://t.co/asGyQ1e0YO

Longleggedlaverne has rattled off four consecutive victories racing one mile or farther at Horseshoe Indianapolis, winning each by a minimum of two lengths while posting Brisnet Speed ratings of 79, 85, 87, and 81. Meanwhile, Talk Radio has won five of her last six runs at Belterra Park (finishing second by a head in the lone loss), putting up Brisnet Speed ratings of 79, 80, 81, 85, 83, and 78.
We’ll count on Longleggedlaverne and Talk Radio to run 1-2 in an exacta. We’ll give the edge to Longleggedlaverne because of her terrific 10-9-1-0 lifetime resume at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
- $25 Exacta: 2 with 6
Good luck!
