Keeler Johnson's picks and plays of June 7

June 7th, 2023

Handicapper J. Keeler Johnson shares $90 worth of picks and plays for Wednesday, June 7 at Delaware Park and Horseshoe Indianapolis, including a trifecta.

Picks and Plays

Delaware Park: Race 1: Maiden Special Weight (4 1/2 furlongs, 12:30 p.m. ET)

Due to HISA air quality guidelines and upon the recommendation of the commission veterinarians, live racing cards scheduled for Delaware Park today have been cancelled.

#2 Master of Malice (4-1) has posted seven timed workouts in preparation for his debut, including a solid half-mile from the Delaware Park starting gate in :49 3/5. Red-hot trainer Brittany Russell has compiled a 13-5-3-4 (38%) record at Delaware this meet and has gone 4-for-9 (44%) debuting juveniles over this track since 2018, suggesting Master of Malice will be ready to roll.

#5 Give It a Whirl (8-5) and #6 Masakado (2-1) can battle for places in the exacta and trifecta. Both are conditioned by Cathal Lynch, who has gone 7-for-27 (26%) debuting juveniles at Delaware since 2018.

Selections

  • #2 Master of Malice (4-1)
  • #5 Give It a Whirl (8-5)
  • #6 Masakado (2-1)

Wagers

  • $15 to win on #2 Master of Malice
  • $5 Exacta: 2 with 5,6 ($10)
  • $2.50 Trifecta: 2 with 5,6 with 5,6 ($5)
    Total: $30

Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 6: Maiden Special Weight (1 1/16 miles on turf, 5:05 p.m. ET)

#7 We Storm (6-1) finished fifth in his debut at Gulfstream Park, a 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight contested over Tapeta after getting rained off the turf. The son of We Miss Artie is bred to handle grass and should relish switching surfaces at Horseshoe Indianapolis, where trainer Jonathan Thomas has compiled an 11-4-4-1 (36%) record this meet.

At 6-1, We Storm is worth betting to win and keying over #5 Qaader (5-1) and #11 Tapthedrum (5-2) in the exacta.

Selections

  • #7 We Storm (6-1)
  • #5 Qaader (5-1)
  • #11 Tapthedrum (5-2)

Wagers

  • $20 to win on #7 We Storm
  • $5 Exacta: 7 with 5,11 ($10)
    Total: $30

Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 8: Shelby County H. (six furlongs, 6:07 p.m. ET)

#8 Hungarian Princess (3-1) has won her last five sprint starts at Horseshoe Indianapolis, including the 2022 edition of the Shelby County H. when returning from a seven-month layoff. Her 14-7-5-0 lifetime record over the Horseshoe Indianapolis dirt is impressive, and the five-year-old mare should be tough to catch in her 2023 debut.

Let’s bet Hungarian Princess to win and key her over #10 Compressed Energy (6-1) and #5 Forever Noted (8-1) in the exacta.

Selections

  • #8 Hungarian Princess (3-1)
  • #10 Compressed Energy (6-1)
  • #5 Forever Noted (8-1)

Wagers

  • $18 to win on #8 Hungarian Princess
  • $6 Exacta: 8 with 5,10 ($12)
    Total: $30

Good luck!
