Picks and Plays
Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 5: Maiden Special Weight (one mile on turf, 4:34 p.m. ET)
After hitting the board in her first five starts on dirt and synthetic, #2 Anchor Manne (5-2) switched to turf for a one-mile maiden special weight at Keeneland. She ran strongly in defeat, settling just behind a slow pace before staying on through fast closing fractions to finish fourth by 1 1/2 lengths.
While horses are the most important factor in handicapping any race, many bettors look toward jockey statistics to strengthen their opinions and separate top contenders.@J_Keelerman helps you understand rider stats 👇 https://t.co/asGyQ1e0YO

Anchor Manne figures to find the competition easier at Horseshoe Indianapolis, so we’ll count on her to win under hot jockey Jane Elliott, who has gone 2-for-5 (40%) to start the meet. We’ll bet Anchor Manne to win and single her to start a double wager.
Selections
- #2 Anchor Manne (5-2)
- #5 Zipsy Rose Lee (6-1)
- #3 Quality Dancer (10-1)
Wagers
- $16 to win on #2 Anchor Manne
- $7 Double: 2 with 5,6 ($14)
Total: $30
Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 6: Maiden Special Weight (4 1/2 furlongs, 5:05 p.m. ET)
Since 2021, trainer Michelle Elliott has gone 5-for-15 (33%) saddling first-time starters at Horseshoe Indianapolis. This bodes well for Elliott’s unraced juveniles #5 Pretty Vegas (8-1) and #6 Designated (15-1).
Pretty Vegas is a half-sister to Sweet Whiskey and El Gaucho, a pair of two-year-old winners who developed into stakes-winning sprinters. Designated is a half-sister to Joy’s Rocket, an early-maturing juvenile who won a trio of sprint stakes at age two.
It can be tricky for inexperienced horseplayers to bet on maiden races filled with unraced horses. How is it possible to predict the performances of horses who have never run?@J_Keelerman is here to help ⤵️ https://t.co/9wjSr6vjBK

Pretty Vegas and Designated are both nice prices on the morning line, so we’ll bet them equally to win and use them both to conclude our double wager.
Selections
- #6 Designated (15-1)
- #5 Pretty Vegas (8-1)
- #4 Union Suit (7-2)
Wagers
- $15 to win on #6 Designated
- $15 to win on #5 Pretty Vegas
Total: $30
Will Rogers Downs: Race 7: $7,500 Maiden Claiming (six furlongs, 5:10 p.m. ET)
#8 Spend Again (9-5) hasn’t missed the board in five consecutive starts, including four against tougher competition than he’ll encounter on Wednesday. The four-year-old gelding ran third in a $15,000 maiden claimer at Sam Houston two starts back before finishing third again in a $7,500 maiden claimer.
Spend Again has speed and brings sharp Brisnet Speed ratings to the table, so he looks ready to win while shipping to Will Rogers Downs. The fact jockey Obed Sanchez and trainer J. R. Caldwell have gone 5-for-15 (33%) teaming up together over the last two months adds to the appeal.
We’ll bet Spend Again to win and key him over #4 Tuff Mandate (3-1) and #7 Langmead (8-1) in the exacta.
Selections
- #8 Spend Again (9-5)
- #7 Langmead (8-1)
- #4 Tuff Mandate (3-1)
Wagers
- $20 to win on #8 Spend Again
- $6 Exacta: 8 with 4
- $4 Exacta: 8 with 7
Total: $30
Good luck!
