Picks and Plays
Colonial Downs: Race 4: Bert Allen S. (1 1/16 miles on turf, 3:09 p.m. ET)
2021 Pegasus World Cup Turf (G1) runner-up #2 Largent (7-5) is 2-for-2 at Colonial Downs and enters off a narrow victory in the Edward P. Evans S. over this course, but from a Brisnet Speed rating perspective, Largent’s form has slipped a bit this year.
#7 Wolfie’s Dynaghost (4-1) may hold upset potential. The son of Ghostzapper has run well in a couple of graded stakes this season, finishing second in the Appleton S. (G3) and Poker S. (G3) racing one mile on turf. He’s slated to compete as a gelding for the first time in the Bert Allen, opening the door for an improved performance under three-time Eclipse Award-winning jockey Irad Ortiz Jr.
Taking advantage of the Bet Back at Colonial Downs promotion, we’ll place a $10 win bet on Wolfie’s Dynaghost. Then we’ll bet him over Largent in a cold exacta.
- $10 to win on #7 Wolfie’s Dynaghost
- $10 Exacta: 7 with 2
Total: $20
Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 7: Back Home Again S. (six furlongs, 5:36 p.m. ET)
#3 Hot Little Thing (7-2) ran well to finish second in her debut sprinting five furlongs at Horseshoe Indianapolis, beaten less than one length by next-out allowance winner #6 Bluelightspecial (4-1). But Hot Little Thing improved sharply in her second start, leading all the way to win an identical five-furlong maiden special weight by seven lengths over a next-out winner.
Hot Little Thing’s maiden victory produced a flashy 77 Brisnet Speed rating, one of the highest figures in Wednesday’s field. Trainer Rodolphe Brisset has been on fire at Horseshoe Indianapolis, going 9-for-22 (41%), and Hot Little Thing looks ready to turn the tables on Bluelightspecial and win the Back Home Again.

Impressive debut winner #7 Belgian Blue (5-1) can battle with Bluelightspecial to complete the exacta.
- $20 to win on #3 Hot Little Thing
- $5 Exacta: 3 with 6,7 ($10)
Total: $30
Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 8: Circle City S. (six furlongs, 6:07 p.m. ET)
#7 Bruster Justice (4-1) is unbeaten and unchallenged in two starts so far. After trouncing a 4 1/2-furlong maiden special weight at Horseshoe Indianapolis by 4 3/4 lengths, Bruster Justice tackled a 5 1/2-furlong allowance and rolled home on top by 4 1/2 lengths.
The latter victory produced an 80 Brisnet Speed rating, easily the highest figure in the Circle City field. A repeat can carry Bruster Justice to victory over #8 Spotonjustice (7-2) and #9 Healing Waters (6-1).
- $20 to win on #7 Bruster Justice
- $5 Exacta: 7 with 8,9 ($10)
Total: $30
Good luck!
