Keertana Overnight Stakes exotics plays for Churchill Downs May 28

A field of nine fillies and mares will cover 1 1/2 miles on Churchill Downs’ turf in the $160,000 Keertana Overnight S. on May 28.

Below we give you our full field analysis and best exotics plays for Race 10 on Churchill’s Saturday card, including exacta, trifecta, and superfecta tickets for the Memorial Day Weekend stakes race.

#1 Stand Tall (6-1): The daughter of Uncle Mo makes a drop in class for conditioner George Arnold, who has gone 6-for-21 (21%) at Churchill Downs this meet and wins at a 22% clip with horses making their second start off a layoff. Last out, the five-year-old mare came home eighth of nine in the 1 1/8-mile Modesty (G3) at Churchill on May 6, her first start since an October win at today’s distance on Keeneland’s turf in an allowance race, in which she clocked an 89 Brisnet Speed rating.

Regular rider Florent Geroux will stay in the irons and is a 16% winner this meet.

#2 Disappearing Act (4-1): Following her 1 1/4-length victory in a 1 1/2-mile allowance at Keeneland on April 21, the dark bay mare will make a move up in class for trainer Richard Baltas, a 19% winner in non-graded stakes races over the last three years. The five-year-old’s 98 BRIS figure last out is the highest last race speed rating and the fastest turf speed among the field.

High percentage jockey Tyler Gaffalione will pick up the mount for Disappearing Act’s debut at Churchill.

#3 Go Big Blue Nation (6-1): The chestnut failed to fire in her first start for trainer Graham Motion, finishing sixth of nine in the 1 1/2-mile allowance won by Disappearing Act at Keeneland on April 21.

The five-year-old’s best speed at today’s distance is a 94 BRIS rating, achieved in November while under the guidance of conditioner Mike McCarthy.

James Graham, who has four wins in 50 rides this meet, will pick up the mount for the Animal Kingdom mare.

#4 La Lune (8-1): In her only recent start, La Lune clocked a poor 79 BRIS figure at 1 1/2 miles in the Bewitch (G3) at Keeneland, where she finished last of five on April 29. Three back, the six-year-old showed better speed at today’s distance with a 93 BRIS figure but came home sixth of nine in the Dowager (G3), in which race rival Luck Money finished second by a half-length.

Trainer Edward Vaughan has no wins in 13 starts in 2022 but is 1-for-3 in non-graded stakes races and 2-for-6 with horses making their second start off a layoff. Julien Leparoux (a 16% winner this meet) will jump in the silks for La Lune, who makes a drop in class.

#5 Federalist Papers (6-1): Hot trainer Chad Brown (a 34% winner in 2022) will pair up with high percentage jockey Ricardo Santana Jr. (18% winner this meet) to guide four-year-old Federalist Papers. The More Than Ready filly won last out at today’s distance at Keeneland in an allowance by 3 1/4 lengths.

The bay’s 81 Speed rating pales in comparison to some of her rivals, but she can contend for the minor awards.

#6 Malibu Marlee (50-1): The five-year-old Verrazano mare has not run on turf since September 2021 and last clocked a 79 Speed figure in a 1 1/16-mile allowance on Churchill’s dirt track.

In three starts this year, the Barry King pupil has placed second once and third twice, but Malibu Marlee has never finished in the money in five career turf starts.

#7 Temple City Terror (3-1): Winner of last year's Keertana S., Temple City Terror failed to hit the board for the first time in her last five starts with a fifth-place finish in a 1 1/16-mile allowance on Keeneland’s turf last out. Two back, the six-year-old hit a 97 Speed figure at 1 1/2 miles on Saratoga’s grass and came home third by about 3 1/4 lengths to multiple-graded stakes winner War Like Goddess.

Trainer Brendan Walsh is a 19% winner this meet and an 18% winner in non-graded stakes races, but jockey Adam Beschizza is just 4-for-47 at Churchill this spring.

Temple City Terror is 4 3-1-0 in her lifetime at this track and will be in the hunt on Saturday.

#8 Luck Money (7-2): The Lookin At Lucky mare finished second by 14 lengths to Virginia Joy in the Sheepshead Bay S. (G2) on May 7 at Belmont and will make a drop in class for trainer Arnaud Delacour, a 26% winner in 2022.

Jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. (66 11-5-9 at Churchill this meet) will pick up the mount in Luck Money’s second career start at Churchill. The dark bay posted a career-best 97 speed figure at 1 1/2 miles on turf at Keeneland last October and may improve in her second start off a layoff with the addition of blinkers.

#9 Undisturbed (15-1): The gray five-year-old came home eighth to rival Stand Tall in a 1 1/2-mile allowance at Keeneland in October and has steadily improved her speed on turf in her last two starts. In three starts in 2022, her only in-the-money finish was a third in a one-mile optional claimer at Gulfstream. Her last win came in September in a one-mile allowance at Ellis Park.

Chris Landeros, a 5% winner (20 1-5-1) this meet, will hop in the saddle.
