Kentucky Derby and Oaks Future Wager Analysis

Wagering on Pool 3 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager (KDFW) will commence on Friday and run through Sunday. In addition, the lone Kentucky Oaks Future Wager will be available this weekend, as well as the option to wager on an Oaks/Derby double.

I have tabbed a handful of value horses of interest below:

Kentucky Derby (Pool 3)

We are less than two months away from the Run for the Roses, and seven of the 23 individual entries will run on Saturday. It will be difficult to find value on any sophomore who runs big in a 2020 Road to the Kentucky Derby challenge race this weekend, so I will focus on horses who have assignments further down the road.

#21 Three Technique (50-1) is a colt that I have tabbed in the first two Pools of the KDFW, and he remains enticing at a healthy number. Mr. Speaker colt is likely headed to the Rebel (G2) at Oaklawn Park on March 14, where he will be a major factor if he runs to his bullet half-mile drill on Saturday.

I am still a big fan of #9 Independence Hall (20-1), who suffered his first defeat in the Sam F. Davis (G3) last time out. The Trombetta trainee continues to train well this campaign, and a good showing by Sole Volante in the Tampa Bay Derby (G2) will flatter the sophomore.

#7 Gouverneur Morris (20-1) was victorious in his 2020 debut at Tampa Bay, and the pair of horses that he defeated are set for weekend engagements. A good showing by either or both of those 3-year-olds will make the Constitution colt look inviting at a decent price.

Kentucky Oaks

I loved the runner-up performance from second-time starter #18 Spice is Nice (15-1) in the Davona Dale (G2). The $1,050,000 Curlin filly got a good education in a tough field, and she was striding well past the wire in the one-mile affair. The Pletcher charge has a high ceiling and she could be peaking on the first Friday in May.

#12 Lucrezia (30-1) beat a pair of fillies that I like with ease in the Suncoast S. at Tampa Bay last time out. Delacour charge flashed fine potential sprinting as a juvenile, and she may be even better going long.
