Changes on the Kentucky Derby Leaderboard

The leader board remains unchanged from last week as the Road to the Kentucky Derby slowly shifts and crystallizes with every COVID-19 development. Tracks are slowly reopening, but stakes schedules remain in flux, and it’s unclear how many cancelled/postponed Derby preps will be resurrected at later dates. Stay tuned!

Attachment Rate: Runner-up in the Unbridled S., Attachment Rate breezed 5 furlongs in 1:01.95 on Saturday at Gulfstream Park.

Authentic: Turned in a stiff workout on Sunday at Santa Anita, speeding 7 furlongs in 1:28. The Santa Anita Derby (G1) is next for the front-running San Felipe (G2) champion.

Azul Coast: El Camino Real Derby winner cruised 5 furlongs in 1:01.20 on Saturday at Santa Anita.

By Your Side: Last year’s Sanford (G3) winner cranked out 4 furlongs in a bullet :48 last Tuesday at Palm Meadows, then came back to breeze the same distance in :49 on Monday.

Cezanne: On Wednesday at Santa Anita, this highly regarded but unraced maiden worked 5 furlongs in 1:01.40.

Echo Town: Narrowly beaten in a fast renewal of the Bachelor S. on May 1, Echo Town got right back on the work tab with a half-mile in :52.40 on Friday at Oaklawn.

Ete Indien: The runaway Fountain of Youth (G2) winner recently posted his first workout since finishing third in the Florida Derby (G1), breezing a half-mile in :50.60 on Wednesday at Palm Meadows.

Field Pass: Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3) victor blazed 5 furlongs in a bullet 1:00.20 over the Polytrack at Turfway Park on Monday.

Gold Street: Smarty Jones S. winner worked 5 furlongs in 1:01.60 on Saturday at Fair Grounds.

Green Light Go: The 2019 Champagne (G1) runner-up fired off 4 furlongs from the Palm Meadows starting gate in a bullet :47.50 on Thursday.

Honor A. P.: Aiming for the Santa Anita Derby (G1), the San Felipe (G2) runner-up turned in a stamina-building workout on Friday at Santa Anita, clocking 7 furlongs in 1:29.20.

Major Fed: Louisiana Derby (G2) fourth-place runner got back on the work tab with 5 furlongs in a snappy 1:00.80 on Saturday at Fair Grounds. The May 23 Matt Winn (G3) is likely next.

Maxfield: Aiming to open his 3-year-old season in the Matt Winn (G3), last year’s Breeders’ Futurity (G1) champion blazed 5 furlongs from the Keeneland starting gate in a bullet :59.20 on Sunday at Keeneland.

Mr. Big News: Upset Oaklawn S. winner clocked a half-mile in :48.80 on Saturday at Fair Grounds. The Matt Winn could be on his agenda.

Mystic Guide: Impressive maiden winner breezed a stiff 6 furlongs in 1:12.80 on Friday at Fair Hill.

Ny Traffic: The Louisiana Derby (G2) runner-up clocked 5 furlongs in a sharp 1:00.35 on Sunday at Gulfstream.

Shivaree: Florida Derby (G1) runner-up finally returned to the work tab on Sunday at Gulfstream, galloping a half-mile in :50.69.

Shoplifted: Remington Springboard Mile winner cruised 5 furlongs in a bullet 1:01.80 on Wednesday at Oaklawn.

Sole Volante: On Wednesday, the Sam F. Davis (G3) winner returned to the work tab for the first time in nearly two months, clocking an easy half-mile in :50.60 at Palm Meadows.

Structor: Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) champion got back in action on Friday following a training setback, breezing 3 furlongs in :39 over the Stonestreet Training track.

Tiz the Law: Florida Derby (G1)winner posted a bullet work on Saturday at Palm Meadows, clocking 5 furlongs in 1:00.20.

Untitled: Recent allowance winner breezed a quick half-mile at Palm Meadows on Saturday, getting the distance in :48.05.

Wrecking Crew: Two-time Grade 1-placed juvenile clocked 5 furlongs in a bullet :59.40 on Tuesday at Oaklawn.

Looking Ahead at the Kentucky Derby

The May 23 Matt Winn (G3) is the next Kentucky Derby prep race on the agenda, with Maxfield and Major Fed among the possible starters. The 1 1/16-mile race will award 10 qualification points to the winner, a drop in the bucket compared to other recent preps, but far better than nothing as we head into uncharted waters on the Road to the Kentucky Derby.
