The History of the Ohio Derby

The Ohio Derby is a Grade III Thoroughbred horse race run at the Thistledown Racecourse in North Randall, Ohio. Inaugurated in 1876, the race was cancelled in 1883 before it was revived in 1924 and has been a staple in Ohio horse racing ever since.

Notable past winners of the race in include 1924 Kentucky Derby winner Black Gold (1924) and 3 time U.S. Champion Skip Away (1996).
