Changes on the Kentucky Oaks Leaderboard

The COVID-19 outbreak continues to have a major effect on horse racing throughout the United States. Three Road to the Kentucky Oaks prep races were cancelled or postponed last week, so the leaderboard remains unchanged with Swiss Skydiver (110 points) still atop the rankings.

Alta’s Award: Over a sloppy track at Oaklawn Park on Sunday, Alta’s Award clocked 4 furlongs in :50.00.

British Idiom: Recorded an easy breeze over a sloppy track at Oaklawn on Saturday, going a half-mile in :51.60.

Donna Veloce: Cruised 5 furlongs in 1:01.60 on Saturday at Santa Anita.

Lazy Daisy: Stepped up to 5 furlongs for her fifth workout of the season, getting the distance in 1:01.60 on Friday at Santa Anita.

Maedean: Posted a half-mile workout on Saturday at Gulfstream Park, recording a time of:49.66.

Perfect Alibi: Turned in her second workout of the year on Friday, going a half-mile in :49.50 over the training track at Belmont Park.

Sharing: Breezed 4 furlongs in :50.80 on Saturday at Fair Hill.

Shedaresthedevil: Tackled a sloppy track at Oaklawn on Saturday morning, breezing a half-mile in :49.40.

Venetian Harbor: Continues to train sharply at Santa Anita, cranking out 5 furlongs in 1:00.20 on Saturday.

Water White: Cruised a half-mile in :49.61 over the Belmont training track on Saturday.

Looking Ahead for the Kentucky Oaks

Established Kentucky Oaks contenders are running out of options for racing right now. Unless they want to face colts in a race like Saturday’s Oaklawn S., there isn’t an unrestricted stakes race for sophomore fillies on the agenda until the May 1 Fantasy (G3) at Oaklawn, which will offer 100 Kentucky Oaks qualification points to the winner.

However, there’s still some hope that Thoroughbred racing will return to California in the near future, in which case the Santa Anita Oaks (G1)—originally scheduled for Apr. 4—could reemerge on the agenda sooner rather than later.
