Twelve races will be offered at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, and I will focus on the late Pick 4 at the South Florida racetrack.
Race 9
The sequence begins with a full field of fillies and mares in a conditional allowance at 1-mile on turf. #9 Art of Almost, a Grade 2-placed runner making her first start since September, has been installed as a deserving 7-2 morning-line favorite, but this race appears contentious.
I will also use #4 Dark Artist, comebacker #5 Always Shopping from the Todd Pletcher barn, and #7 Mintd, off a nice win at Tampa Bay.
Race 10
Eight 3-year-olds will square off over a one-turn mile on the main track in this entry-level allowance/optional-claiming event I recommend a pair of runners in their second start off the claim.
#2 Blood Moon will run under allowance conditions for Danny Gargan. Claimed for $50,000 from a frontrunning maiden-claiming score two starts back, the chestnut exits a solid fourth against better in a starter stakes, and he should be forwardly placed from the start with jockey Luis Saez.
#5 Dynadrive sticks with the main track, following a decent runner-up effort at this level. Trainer Mike Maker wins at a 21% clip in the second start off a claim, and the multiple winner avoids the allowance conditions by racing for the $50,000 claiming tag.
Dynadrive has turned in respectable efforts in both outings this year, and the stalker looks poised for a top showing in the third attempt following a layoff.
Race 11
#7 Lady Grace enters on the upswing for trainer Mark Casse. She recorded a pair of wins over the 5-furlong turf distance this meet and should receive the proper setup, with several frontrunning types in the full field. Her odds will be lower than the 4-1 morning-line price, and the 4-year-old filly won’t face the stiffest competition.
Third in her stakes debut at Woodbine in June, Lady Grace headed to the sideline for seven months afterward.
She has displayed a fine finishing kick in her last two outings, and this looks like a prep for her return to stakes company. I will single Lady Grace.
Race 12
#10 Honest Gal is listed as the 7-2 favorite on the morning line, among 10 fillies, in this $12,500 maiden claimer, but it is difficult to have much confidence, as she is plunging in class off a pair of disappointing performances.
I will add five others to the ticket: #1 Mohanna Queen, #3 Rack Daddy, #4 Rye Street, #6 Upsy Daisy Do, and #8 Party Dress.
50-cent Pick 4: 4,5,7,9 with 2,5 with 7 with 1,3,4,6,8,10 ($24)
