Levys Look Combative Sans Dominant Stud; Pick-3 Cash Campaign Continues At Meadows

The George Morton Levy Memorial and Blue Chip Matchmaker series roll through spring at Yonkers as the second weekend of April offers more racing in the thaw of winter. The “Levy” goes with a trio of divisions and the Matchmaker again does a duo.

In the Levy, PH Supercam, last year’s champion, takes a week off, opening up the arena for well-priced winners in a trio of divisions April 11. Matchmaker-dominating Carolsideal goes again against four in a division on her journey to the final and one more short field division is featured April 10.

We’ll offer more outside contenders in the 50-cent early Pick 3 at the Meadows on April 10, hoping to add to a large-paying exotic bet.

Money Mares

There are just two Matchmaker divisions Friday, Apirl 10, in round four of the series and just like last week they are short fields that may appear more contentious than are actually the cases.

In division one the hammering will go to last week’s winner, Yagonnakissmeornot and noisy pounding will go to Camille. That leaves three possibilities with reasonable odds—Monkey On My Wheel, Venus Delight and Coffee Addict. “Venus” was our choice last week when she nailed second (5-1) to the favorite, Yagonnakissmeornot and she may be able to topple those to her right, hugging the wood from post 1 and her odds could be as high or higher than last week.

Carolsideal looks to make a mockery of the mares and go all the way to the final sans a loss. But she will have to battle, we think, more than usual with Ron Burke’s Charisma Hanover offering a challenge. As well, Krispy Apple will be gunning in only her fourth effort of the season. Krispy Apple may offer more than she should as a high second choice and is worth the chance to crack Carolsideal’s streak, especially if the Burke mare burns her by the half. 

Meadows Pick-3 Plays

Here are some outside contenders to consider adding to a Meadows early Pick 3 (50 cent) ticket on April 10. In addition, consider their odds for individual win-place-show/exotic plays.

Race 3

Stirling Caprice dueled early to get the lead last week in this company and was worn by the stretch from the fight. Leaving from post 3 here, as opposed to post 8, should help her use her early speed with more productivity. Nice Rocks drops after jumping during a poor try from post 8 but the race before it was a strong finish for third (34-1) at a higher level off of three-straight qualifiers. A smooth effort could blow this field away.

Race 4

Dew It Again took far to the outside, dueling with two before getting the lead and picked up fifth for the tiring effort. She needed that race as she settles into her sophomore season and stays with her division in the first leg of this local late-closing series.

Race 5

Rollinlikeahotshot was on the H2W list last week and gets our call for the Pick 3 in leg three as he takes this company on again, his second try after a win at the level before it.

Levy Chapter IV

The April 11 Yonkers program hosts three Levy divisions for leg four.

The Levy opener of the evening offers a wide-open scenario. The favorite-laden divisions in the first three legs, except for a solo 10-1 shot, have not been fodder for outsiders. This division may not produce a strong favorite, even with only six in the field. The 10-1 division winner is here; Domethatagain won last week, beating favorite Bettor’s Edge, a 5-1 division winner the week before that.

After supporting Machs Beach Boy for two legs, we will back him again, in this fray. Last week, at 13-1 he found cover and closed well. If he is closer at the half he should excel and get a hold of Warrawee Needy. That one seems to have a fan club, though he doesn’t fire his wicked speed every time. If he fires, however, he will expect a challenge from Mach It So and Bettor’s Edge and that could open the path for our “Boy.”

Also, look out for Windsong Jack. He gets the wood and last week he took off slowly but was closing like a Radio Shack store in the stretch. He still may not offer the cash Boy will offer.

In the second division there is another sextet that may fool the public. Take It Back Terry and Fat Mans Alley come off of wins and will get the bulk of action. Aslan hanged and tanked Texican N has been numb in this series for two seasons; Frankies Dragon needs divine intervention; and Sapphire City was second last week in a suck-along trip. That leaves Mcerlean, the itinerant pacer named for my neighbor and long-time industry associate (formerly main man at the old Meadowlands), Christopher. Last week the pacer Mcerlean came to the series with less support than a Giuliani Presidential bid. Mcerlean, however, finished third at 104-1. That is not a typo. In the small field he was invisible to the public. But he did not race to his odds and that is what gives him a good shot to upset here. Of the outsiders, including Mcerlean deserves our support.

Levy three on the evening is another six raring to beat one another. The Michael’s Power fan club will be very sure of a wire-to-wire win from post 1. Why not? Only Heez Orl Black N has won a race this season aside from “Power” and Clear Vision has not been much of a foe. “Heez” has a 9-1 morning-line, much due to leaving from post 6 but post-conscious Yonkers fans go overboard in their assessments and that means prices abound for outside horses. Heez will be in the mix and could wear down Power and be better at closing than National Debt, who shows late spark that never catches fire.

The horses’ names are listed beneath the name of the track after the date they will be racing. The race in which they are entered (R and race number) follows. If a + is in front of a horse’s name it means it is appearing on the list for the second (and last time) because it failed to win the first time it appeared. An “ae” signals the horse is entered on the also-eligible list. If a horse is listed twice, refer to the entries on the night of the race since a horse may enter in more than one race.
