Live Quarter Horse Racing Season Gets Underway Friday at Lone Star Park

Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas, will kick off its 2016 live Quarter Horse season on Friday, September 16.  The 26-day meet will continue through Saturday, November 12 with many special events and graded stakes.

Dash for Cash Futurity and Derby on October 9 and the Grade 1, $1 million Texas Classic Futurity and $400,000 Texas Classic Derby on November 12.

Trainers to watch for the upcoming meet include Trey Wood, Judd Kearl, Toby Keeton, Mike Robbins, Leon Bard and Brian Stroud. Jockey Ricky Ramirez was the leading rider in 2015, and will return along with Luis Vivanco, who won the title there in 2014, Jose Alvarez, Noe Villatoro, Russel Hadley and Francisco Calderon.

Wood and Ramirez look to replicate their success in 2015 where they teamed up to win the $415,590 Texas Classic Derby with Bodacious Eagle and the $1.1 million Texas Classic Futurity with talented filly, Tres Friends.  Horseman Judd Kearl enters the Lone Star Park meet leading all AQHA trainers in both wins and purses for 2016.
