The History of the Cigar Mile Handicap

Run each year at Aqueduct Racetrack, the Cigar Mile Handicap is named in honor of the legaendary Hall of Famer Cigar. Then called the NYRA Mile, Cigar began his record setting 16 race win streak in 1994 with a win at the race. Following his retirement, the race was renamed in his honor in 1997.
