The ten finalists emerged from 15 trials run on February 25 was Sir Edward L Perry. The son of Sir Runaway Dash was purchased as a weanling in the LQHBA Fall Mixed Sale for $2,000. The winner’s share of the purse is $122,000, so owner Filimon Saucedo would have a six-figure return on his investment! His son, Juan Saucedo trains and Texas-based rider, Luis Vivanco will ride.
The fastest qualifier in 2016 was RDD Lajollanfastdash, and he won the title, so bettors cannot dismiss Sir Edward L Perry in the final. However, trainer Jose Sanchez qualifiedg three fillies, including second-fastest qualifier, Shesa Diamond Diva. His son, Eddie Sanchez will ride. Jockey Francisco Calderon picked up the mount on Blue Eyed Fance, the daughter of leading Louisiana stakes winning sire Jess Louisiana Blue. The third of Sanchez’ finalists is TTT Kas, who will be ridden by Raul Ramirez, Jr.

One other juvenile worth a long look is Cos I Get It, a son of Tee Cos, who has been producing some very fast runners. He is trained by Eusevio Huitron, who will give a leg up to Damian Martinez, the current leading rider at Louisiana Downs.
A fast track is predicted for Saturday, with the card getting underway at 1 pm (Central). The $93,000 Mardi Gras Derby will run as the fifth race of the afternoon and the Futurity goes as race seven.
