Maryland-bred trotters and pacers seeking Breeders Crown glory

October 25th, 2017

This coming Friday and Saturday evening novice and serious harness racing fans alike will focus their attention on Hoosier Park in Indiana as the seven-eighths mile oval hosts the 12 Breeders Crown finals for both gaits and all ages. Less than one week after the best Maryland-sired two-year-old trotters and pacers were on display at Rosecroft Raceway, many of the best Maryland-bred trotters and pacers will be seeking Breeders Crown glory.

Friday evening's Breeders Crown finals will be for the ladies and several Maryland-bred pacers will be seeking to attain 'Crown' titles. In the Breeders Crown final for three-year-old filly pacers, Agent Q and Tequila Monday, who accepted a bye into the race as did recent NYSS hero Obvious Blue Chip, will be looking to forge success in this spot. Agent Q owns a solid 8-2-2 slate and $510,000 banked from 14 starts this year, while Tequila Monday brings an 8-6-2 slate and $380,000 bankroll from 20 seasonal outings for trainer Chris Oakes.

Then in the Breeders Crown final for two-year-old filly pacers, Firestorm (Scott Zeron) will be looking to post a huge upset against elimination winners Rainbow Room - a daughter of Hall of Fame pacing mare and horse of the year Rainbow Blue - and Youaremycandygirl, who should settle the dispute for division honors. Then in the Breeders Crown Open Mare Pace final, Lady Shadow will be seeking to successfully defend her title in this event and Maryland-bred harness horse of the year when she tackles Nike Franco N and Darlinonthebeach in this anticipated rematch.

Then on Saturday night, Met's Hall (Andy Miller) will be among the serious contenders for the title in the Breeders Crown final for two-year-old colt trotters, while Western Passage sports an outside chance in the Breeders Crown final for two-year-old colt pacers against Lost In Time and Stay Hungry. Then later New Jersey Viking will look to forge a major shocker in the Breeders Crown final for three-year-old colt trotters against elim winners What The Hill and International Moni.
