Meadowlands offers solid Saturday night card
This coming Saturday night harness racing fans will turn their attention to the Meadowlands as the one-mile oval in New Jersey will once again resume its role as the sport's mecca when the track hosts two eliminations of its signature event, the Meadowlands Pace for three-year-old pacing colts, as well as two Graduate finals.
Just prior to the midway point of the Big M card on Saturday night, four-year-old trotters will be on display in the $250,000 Graduate Final. The group includes Dunbar Hall, who has won five of 10 starts this year, Moonshiner Hanover who has won four of six starts this year, International Moni, Don Dream and Bill's Man. Guardian Angel As has won all three of his starts this year but needs one rival to scratch in order to get into the final.
Then one race later in the first of two, $50,000 Meadowlands Pace elims, Ideal Feeling, Hayden Hanover, This Is The Plan, Captain Deo, Nutcracker Sweet, Stay Hungry and Thinking Dreambig will vie for the five spots available for the $700,000 final. This Is The Plan, Nutcracker Sweet and Stay Hungry own the class advantage with that trio having already competed in the North America Cup at Mohawk and the Max Hempt Memorial at Pocono Downs, while Thinkbig Dreambig has won four of five starts this year and looks poised to earn a berth in the final.
Then two races later in the second Meadowlands Pace elim, clearly the deeper of the two divisions, American History, Courtly Choice, Jimmy Freight, Fashiononthebeach, Babes Dig Me, Odds On Lauderdale, Grand Teton and Dorsoduro Hanover will clash for spots in the lucrative final. Courtly Choice has delivered the most impressive efforts of any colt in this field thus far, but the Maryland-bred has done so in consolations of the North America Cup and Max Hempt Memorial and now will look to carry that form into the final.
Then two races later in the $250,000 Graduate final for four-year-old pacers, Miso Fast, Donttellmeagain, Western Joe, Filibuster Hanover, Lawrencetown Beach and Highalator all looked poised to have an impact on this event. Miso Fast has the rail and immense ability, but Dontellmeagain and Filisbuster Hanover exit the tough Ben Franklin final and both should be heard from in the latter stages of this affair against pacers their age.
