The Meadows hosts Del Miller Adios elims
While the Meadowlands in New Jersey may have garnered the spotlight last weekend among harness racing enthusiasts, many standardbred fans will turn their attention slightly west this weekend when The Meadows, a five-eighths mile oval near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, hosts two eliminations for the Del Miller Adios on an afternoon card that will highlight potential juvenile stars.
The first five races on the card are $20,000 Stallion Series events for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings, races for juvenile pacers just below the top group competing later on the card in four, $47,000 Albatross divisions for Pennsylvania Sire Stakes All-Stars.
The opening TSS split includes Captain Panko (David Miller), winner of his lone outing in 1:54.3 and Prince Of Tides (Corey Callahan), who has been second once and third once in his first two outings. The second division includes Highlandbeachlover (David Palone), winner of his lone start in 1:56.1 for trainer Kelly O'Donnell, along with No Pulse Mindale (Andy Miller), second twice in three starts and Acton Hanover (Matt Kakaley), second in each of his first two outings for trainer Ron Burke.
The fourth TSS division includes Latissimus Hanover (Tim Tetrick), a winner in 1:52.2 and Yacht Week (Christian Lind), who prevailed in 1:53 in his career debut. The fifth split features Just Plain Loco (David Miller), a winner once in two outings, and Springbridge Proud (Gingras), who owns a 1:573 victory in two starts for Burke.
Several races later the serious freshmen will go behind the gate in the first $47,000 PASS All-Stars split for this group. Love Me Some Lou (Callahan), won his career debut in 1:52.3 for trainer Thomas Cancelliere, while De Los Cielos Deo (Gingras) has won both of his starts for Burke. Captain Victorious (Marcus Miller) has won once and finished second once in two starts for trainer Julie Miller and sports a 1:53.2 mark.
Then one race later in the second $47,000 PASS All-Star split for juvenile pacing colts, Sugar Factory (Callahan) won his lone start for Cancelliere after winning a Big M qualifier in 1:52.3, while Air Force Hanover (Miller) won his most recent outing in 1:52 for Burke. The next division includes Proof (Kakaley), who owns a 1:54 score from two starts and Bring The Thunder (Miller) who has been second once and third once in two starts for trainer Chris Ryder.
Then one race later in the first Del Miller Adios elimination, another race that once tested the durability and stamina of the standardbreds by being offered in heats, American History (Gingras) will look to rebound from his Meadowlands Pace setback when he tackles Done Well (Tetrick) and Wes Delight (Callahan). Done Well has won once and finished second twice in five starts but owns seasonal earnings of over $200,000. Wes Delight has won five of nine outings and banked $140,000 for trainer Mark Harder.
