Meadows Power Plays Make Noise; Place, Show Best On Board
Thursday, Feb. 20
Wallyworld VI at—where else—Pompano again opened this week’s action, but with seven races. The card only offered eight and we were competing in seven. Wally was missing from Race 2, and popped up in Race 1 (information not available at press time). He lost Race 1 and was not the favorite.
In Race 2, sans Wally, we finished second with Photo Master ($4.80, $3.20). The public’s second choice won.
Wally beat us in Race 3, driving the favorite (of course) to a win. We were third with Sportscam ($2.40).
We lost Race 4 with Schubie (43-1) and Wally also failed as the second choice in the betting won. Wally came back in Race 5 to win on another favorite while we finished fifth with Qing Qong Bluechip (3-1), fifth.
Race 6 found our choice, Silver Wings ($5.40, $4.60) completing the $36.20 exacta with the race favorite. Wally failed to win and then did so again in Race 7. We finished fifth with King Royalty (9-1).
Wally walloped us in Race 8 with the public’s second choice as our choice, Kashe (43-1) broke and was eliminated.
Friday, Feb. 21
Power Plays at the Meadows brought back some live-finishing picks to grace the exotics with two of three winners.
We had to bomb in Race 1, though, with only a third from Mr Moiselle ($2.40), who checked into the $27.80 trifecta combo. Our other three were off the board (no superfecta offered). Order Mattie (34-1) finished fourth, Banker Twentyfive (28-1) finished sixth, and Invincible (9-1) broke and galloped home seventh.
In Race 2 we delivered the second half of the $9.00 Daily Double with One To Draw To ($4.60, $3.00, $2.20), while leading a $9.80 exacta with another choice, Cruserwillwin ($2.80, $2.20) and completing the $52.60 trifecta with Chance To See ($3.00). The off-the-board finisher was Bergerac (20-1), fifth. Three of four were included in the $6.26 superfecta.
The $17.80 exacta in Race 3 included our other winner, Play It Again Sam ($7.20, $3.80, $2.60) and the combo’s second element, Epic Union ($2.80, $2.40), while the $70.40 trifecta combo finished with our choice, Junior’s Dew ($4.40). Three of four from us helped complete the $10.51 superfecta.
Saturday, Feb. 22
At Pocono Downs the public choices were too good for Trixas (20-1), who was left in the busy pack, finishing seventh,
At Yonkers, Money Maven (34-1) could not make any noise as the public choice won decisively.
H2W LIST RESULTS
The H2W results list across-the-board prices. Also, exactas listed are included when a H2W horse finishes second with a race favorite or the first two finishers making up the exacta are H2W horses (an asterisk appears when both horses were listed to complete a cold exacta). The note “ok” determines that prices published are correct even when a show price exceeds a place price or any or all of the prices are the same. This week, there were 47 active horses (a 6-percent win hit rate and a 40-percent ATB [across-the-board] hit rate).

Hawthorne Race Course’s 92-night harness season kicked off last weekend. The draw for races, however, was after our posting deadline, so we could not include the horses we have been researching from qualifiers. We hope not to omit our choices at Hawthorne so we will do what we can for Hawthorne bettors at TwinSpires. If draws are not held to meet our deadline, look on Twitter @FrankCotolo for H2W horses.
Hoosier Park’s 27th season of harness racing kicks off on March 27 and goes through Nov. 21. With a daily post time of 6:30 p.m., Hoosier Park offers a lucrative stakes program throughout the season. This year, the meet is highlighted by the return of the $6-million Breeders Crown elims and finals.
Speaking of Indiana, the standardbred industry looked back at 2019 in late January to announce its best performers. Frosh-pacer Odds On Osiris was pacer of the year, having earned $343,895 at Hoosier from seven wins in 10 starts. Glorious Nite was aged pacer of the year; Grand Swan was soph-filly trotter and the trotter of the year; Bridge To Jesses was aged stallion trotter of the year.
The 2020 racing season at Running Aces in Minnesota opens on Saturday, May 16. It continues through Sunday, Sept. 13—a 55 race night season, which is the most in track history. In addition to added race dates, other changes for 2020 include a 6:00 p.m. post time for night racing and the addition of three Friday race cards in the month of July. Qualifiers are scheduled for mornings and the Minnesota Night of Champions will be on Saturday, Sept. 12, closing weekend. For the first time, the Night of Champions will not cap the Running Aces season.
