Pro: Del Mar Futurity (G1) winner exits a strong runner-up finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) for Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert, who has won this race eight times in the last 10 years.
Con: Must avoid getting boxed in traffic while breaking from the inside post.
#2 Mellencamp *
Pro: Baffert trainee finished ahead of Journalism when second in a six-furlong maiden special weight at Santa Anita.
Con: He’s yet to win a race and finished six lengths behind Journalism when stretching out for a one-mile maiden special weight at Del Mar last time out.
#3 Getaway Car * * * *
Pro: Ran well against tough competition when second in the American Pharoah (G1) and fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile for Baffert.
Con: Both of his wins have come in sprints, and he may prefer running shorter than 1 1/16 miles.

Pro: Stoutly bred son of Santa Anita Derby (G1) winner Honor A. P. has improved since stretching out around two turns, finishing second in back-to-back one-mile maiden special weights.
Con: Finished 2 1/2 lengths behind Journalism in his latest run and previously lost to Gaming and Getaway Car.

Pro: Improving son of two-time Horse of the Year Curlin rallied to win a one-mile maiden special weight at Del Mar by 2 1/2 lengths over Rank.
Con: His career-best 95 Brisnet Speed rating is 10 points lower than the 105 Gaming posted in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.
