Molly Morgan snuck through on the rail to take Friday’s $300,000 La Troienne Stakes, a Grade 1 contest scheduled as the 7TH race on the 2015 Kentucky Oaks program.
Trained by Dale Romans and ridden by Corey Lanerie, the six-year-old mare ran in the back of the nine-horse field before making her move entering the turn. She gained the advantage in the stretch and managed to hold off 2-1 favorite Sheer Drama and Gold Medal Dancer to score.
Molly Morgan, a daughter of Ghostzapper, ran 1 1/16 miles on the fast main track in 1:43 1/5 and paid $13 for the win at 5-1.
Bred in Kentucky by Mike Lauffer, Bill Cubbedge and Greg McDonald, and campaigned by Cubbedge, Molly Morgan added a fourth stakes win to her resume and avenged her runner-up effort in this same race a year ago.
