Monday card at Harrington Raceway features second DSBF elims
Monday evening Harrington Raceway will host the second round of eliminations of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings as the opening round winners look to secure their spot in the $100,000 DSBF final on Governor's Day, while the others look to join them.
Monday's fourth race is the first division of the second DSBF elimination round and the split is actually devoid - through random luck of the draw - of any opening round winners.
Hail To The Master (Art Staffiord, Jr.) raced well first over to finish second to Power To Perform last Monday and should go postward as the favorite from post two here. The Winbak Farm product trained by Dorothy Ann Connor has only won once in seven starts this year after posting five wins and $74,000 banked from nine starts as a freshman. He will likely be aggressivley handled leaving the gate and should be in ideal striking position throughout.
Two spots to his outside in post four is JW Renegade (John Mackinnon) who raced very well in defeat in the fastest of the three opening round splits last Monday when second to Next Success. JW Renegade has yet to win from seven starts this year, but he has displayed dramatic improvement since being treated with Lasix. He benefited from a pocket trip last week behind Next Success in a fast clocking, but he also took a shot at him turning for home before being rebuffed and looms a danger.
Zoom On Romeo (Victor Kirby) has the rail following a fourth-place finish last week. Door Prize (Tyler Davis) finished fifth last week but gets post three Monday. Sizz Matty (Russell Foster) chased Next Success and JW Renegade last week while seventh, All Music (Montrell Teague) has scratched sick from his last two starts and remains a mystery, while Cut The Beach (George Dennis) finished a solid third last week and will try to overcome post seven this week.
Two races later on the card the older horses will be on display in the $16,000 Open Handicap and the race attracted the vastly improved Getitoffyourchest (Ross Wolfenden), who has won his last two in 1:50.3 and 1:50.4, respectively, and gets assigned the outside post seven for trainer Richard Lewis and owner David Banks of Rookery fame and Layfield Horses of Marathon fame.
But just to his inside is the classy, multimillionaire, Clear Vision, who owns 30 wins and nearly $2.5 million banked from 184 lifetime outings including a win in the $200,000 Bobby Quillen Memorial final over this oval. Just A Jolt (Victor Kirby), who has thrived over this oval for trainer Jim King, Jr., and owns multiple wins in the Governor's Cup on Governor's Day, will start from post four, while Dancin Yankee (Russell Foster) returns after spending the first three months in Ohio.
Then two races later the focus is back on the three-year-olds in the second DSBF split. Elim winners Next Success (Jim Morand) and Power To Perform will start from posts five and three, respectively, but they will hardly be close in the wagering.
Next Success, upset winner of the first $100,000 DSBF final for this group at Dover Downs in April, won last week as the 3-5 choice in 1:53.1 for trainer Les Givens and figures to get serious backing again here. Power To Perform (Tony Morgan) won his elim in 1:55.3 after setting pedestrian early fractions and will get tested here.
Richie The Flanka (Teague) drew the rail following a good qualifier for trainer Dylan Davis. Spinstigator (Stafford) finished a nondescript fifth last week behind John's Dream. Spincredible (Dennis) was a modest fourth last week, while Double Miles (Kirby) finished second to John's Dream last week from the rail and the pocket but gets post seven here and will have a difficult time getting involved in the action early.
Then two races later on the third DSBF split, John's Dream (Wolfenden) will look to secure a spot in the Governor's Day final when he leaves from post three as the odds-on favorite. Casino Bags Anso attempted to brush from third to command last week but was rebuffed by Next Success and then had nothing left in the lane.
