Monticello Hosts Fillies In Four Sires Stakes Divisions; Few Eligible In Meadowlands Finals
With the major stakes on the Hambletonian Trail looming in the approaching month, hopefuls continue their preps on local circuits in sires stakes action over the first weekend of June with “Oaks” contenders competing in four divisions of the $120,600 New York Sires Stakes (NYSS) at Monticello Raceway Monday, June 4.
Division one of filly fun attracts probable favorite and Oaks-hopeful Fury Road, along with her probable overlay rival Tribute To Seven. Fury Road, off a sharp effort in the Empire Breeders Classic, is the most logical contender for the public’s dollars, but Tribute To Seven draws well into a weaker bunch, which gives her a chance to outrace her odds.
Lima Novelty is the lone eligible in the second split of NYSS and may be the value of the race since Lucky Ava should go off the favorite. Winless so far this season, Lima Novelty has two decent miles behind her and a good post to potentially demonstrate her trail of improvement with a victory.
The third NYSS grouping is fronted by Oaks-eligible Jordan Blue Chip, who should be the favorite despite the outside draw, as well as fellow hopefuls Perfect Summer K and Supergirl Riley. Starting from post 7, Supergirl Riley should go at odds higher than deserved, considering she was third in the Empire Breeders Classic to Atlanta and Plunge Blue Chip, who currently head the top flight moving to the Oaks.
A quartet of eligible fillies race in the final NYSS division: Ciao Dolce, Oooteeny, Mooshka Stride and Baby Wants. Of the four, Oooteeny should provide the best price, as she should be ignored despite winning a conditioned trot from post 8 at Freehold last out. Drawing inside this week, she faces a slightly tougher group but the form she displayed in that mile should transpose well to this level.
Colts and fillies contest in $75,000 New Jersey Sires Stakes finals Friday, June 1 at the Meadowlands, with Samis Rolin Stone being the lone eligible in the filly final and the colt final gathering Hambo hopefuls Shoshie Deo and U Need Stones.
While the filly final is pretty much set in stone, whoever of the Hambo eligibles goes at a higher price in the colt final will be the bet of the race if there is a bet in the first place.
