No Pre-School Needed for these Kindergarten Contenders
There is a tremendous history in the Sunday night feature at Los Alamitos.
The Cypress, California racetrack will present the final of the $303,600 Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity at 300 yards on Sunday. Since its first running in 1995, many exceptional 2-year-olds have won the prestigious race. Renamed last year to honor the late jockey Robert Adair, the field this year will showcase the top ten qualifiers from 300-yard trials run on April 30.
There are five fillies taking on their male counterparts in this year’s final, and two of them are undefeated and will command a lot of attention at the betting windows.

Summertime Favorite, a daughter of Favorite Cartel is conditioned by 14-time AQHA champion trainer, Paul Jones. Her trial win in :15.561 seconds was the fastest of all, and Jones, who also bred the speedy filly, will be looking to win his third Kindergarten Futurity. He and jockey Ramon Sanchez, who will ride Summertime Favorite, teamed up to win the 2008 and 2011 edition of the stakes.
The other unbeaten filly is Perfect Az Can Be, who posted the second-fastest clocking for trainer by Kristen Watanabe. Bred in Arizona, she was sired by Texas Icon and will be ridden by Eddie Garcia. Trainer Juan Aleman has two finalists: Shangrilalala, a Mr Jess Perry, who posted the third-fastest qualifying time and Fire and Sass, a gelded son of Walk Thru Fire.
The Sunday night card at Los Alamitos begins at 5:48 pm (PT) with the Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity set as the ninth and final race on the card.
