Oaklawn Park spot plays for Friday, March 27

The betting fare at Oaklawn Park remains appealing for BetAmerica horseplayers. Seven of the nine races on Friday’s program feature at least 10 runners, and I’ll spotlight a couple of horses of interest.
Race 6
Steve Asmussen has a pair of females in the 11-horse field, including 7-2 morning-line favorite #2 Cherished, but she exits a disappointing third at 4-5 odds, and the frontrunning filly is sandwiched in post 2, between early speed types #1 Elite Song and #3 Blinkers. I like Asmussen’s other runner, #10 Ginny B.
Listed at 8-1 on the morning line, Ginny B did not get away cleanly from an inside post when she finished an even fourth in her Oaklawn debut last time out. She was claimed back for $25,000 by Asmussen, who saddled the 4-year-old filly to a second-place effort at Churchill Downs in mid-November but lost her for a $20,000 tag that day.
Ginny B did not show a lot earlier in her career, but her form has improved since she switched to dirt sprints four starts back. She possesses some tactical foot, with 93 E1 and 100 E2 Brisnet Early Pace ratings last time out, and I love the outside draw Friday for a stalking trip.
With a prime setup expected, Ginny B can prove best in the final furlongs of this 6-furlong test.
Race 8
#9 Wholehearted is one of three runners who will take betting action in this 11-horse field, and I like her chances, off a pair of encouraging performances this meet.
Claimed for $25,000 from a close second in late November, the 6-year-old mare just missed when she returned off a freshening against starter-allowance foes in early February. Wholehearted stepped up in class, with a sharp score over conditional allowance/claiming rivals 10 days later, when she easily registered top last-out Speed (93) and Late Pace (96) numbers, and she will make her third start off the layoff Friday for leading trainer Robertino Diodoro.
Wholehearted is 3-1 on the morning line, and if her price isn’t too short come post time, I will play her straight. She will also be singled in multi-race wagers.
