Ocean Downs offers Maryland Sire Stakes
While many harness racing enthusiasts are already eagerly looking forward to the four lucrative finals at Pocono Downs this Saturday night, Ocean Downs continues to offer a blend of Maryland Sire Stakes and overnight races that have been pleasing to the spectators at the seaside oval.
On Monday evening Lloyd's All In (Jared Moyer) romped home five lengths clear in 1:55.2 in the first MDSS elim for three-year-old pacing colts then Gaagaa Gone (Corey Callahan) and Boo Boo Baa Baa (Callahan) won consecutive MDSS races for three-year-old filly trotters in 1:58.1 and 2:02, respectively. Callahan owns, drives and bred Gaagaa Gone who is clearly the favorite for the upcoming final.
Then in the MDSS elims for three-year-old filly pacers, H S Shauna (Roger Plante, Jr.) won the first split in 1:55.1 and Miss Choptank (Victor Kirby) overhauled Princess Rusty (Jonathan Roberts) to score in 1:56. Chucky De Vie (Russell Foster) won the MDSS prelim for three-year-old colt trotters in 1:59.1.
Sunday evening at Ocean Downs the older pacers were on display in numerous overnight events. Hi Sir (Foster) won the $10,000 Open Handicap in 1:52.3, Safensound Hanover (Mike Cole) scored in the Platinum in 1:54, Smart Rokker won the first Gold split in 1:54 and Dancing Rusty won the second Gold division in 1:56.1.
Speaking of the lucrative finals at Pocono Downs on Saturday, post positions for those events were drawn this afternoon and the results proved interesting. Those four finals will be contested as consecutive races on the latter portion of the Pocono Downs card on Saturday.
James Lynch Memorial elims winners Youaremycandygirl and Kissin In The Sand got posts two and nine, respectively, while Sidewalk Dancer got the rail and Alexa's Power drew post six for the $300,000 Lynch final. Lather Up drew post seven for the $500,000 Max Hempt final, while fellow elim winners Hitman Hill and Dorsoduro Hanover got posts two and four, respectively. Nutcracker Sweet drew the coveted rail after his runner-up effort behind Lather Up last week.
Ben Franklin elim winners McWicked, Heaven Rocks A and All Bets Off got posts two, four and five, respectively, for the $500,000 final, while Sintra, disqualified from first to third in his elim, got post seven and Filibuster Hanover drew post eight. Then in the $500,000 Earl Beal, Jr. Memorial for three-year-old trotters, unbeaten, talented filly Manchego drew post six, while fellow elim winners Mission Accepted and Six Pack got posts three and nine, respectively. Crystal Fashion, sharp second to Manchego in their elim, drew post four.
