Older pacers don't disappoint on Tuesday card
Onlookers expecting fast miles on the Tuesday card at Rosecroft Raceway were not disappointed as many of the best older pacers delivered.
Just past the midway point of the card, Diamondkeeper (Jonathan Roberts) overcame an extended first over bid and prevailed in the lane to capture a conditioned event in 1:53.1 as the 1-5 favorite. Diamondkeeper has raced well in spots during the meet but was also unlucky at times. Tuesday he found the right level to regain his winning ways for trainer Basil Sapienza.
One race later on the card, Go Collect N (Roberts) benefited from a fast early tempo and second over journey to capture the $13,000 Open 2 Handicap in 1:52.1. Go Collect N made his local debut for trainer Dylan Davis and outlasted local Open regular Hi Sir.
Several minutes after the race both Concert Artist and Arpeggio Hanover were honored for their efforts at the meet. Concert Artist won three times for trainer Brian Tomlinson and was Rosecroft Raceway track management's choice for horse of the meet. Arpeggio Hanover, hero of the Open the week before for trainer Arty Foster, Jr., was the selection by the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the U.S. Harness Writers Association as Rosecroft spring meet champ.
Then one race later on the card, Cabbie's Delight (Pat Berry) benefited from a fast early tempo and live cover to overcome post eight and a third over journey to take the 'winners over' class in 1:52.2. It was his second win in 16 starts this year after overhauling Bridge Jumper in the final strides.
Then one race later on the card, Hickory Aloha displayed plenty of early speed and some late determination to capture a conditioned event in 1:51.4.
Rosecroft will offer its final live racing card of the spring meet this Saturday with a program that is slated to get under way not long after the Belmont Stakes is made official. Racing secretary Pete Hanley is hoping to card both a F-M Open and an Open Handicap for male pacers.
