Palm Beach $10,000 Rooneys Cup Race Previews

May 25th, 2015

Happy Memorial Day Weekend everybody! One of the best feature races of the year happens today, with the 4th running of the Rooney’s Cup. Hot shot rookies against many of the track’s top superstars make for two classic races that will decide who gets a piece of $10,000.

Here is my predictions for what will happen in this afternoon’s Feature Races at “The Beach.”

*Pebbles*

Race 10 (Rooney's Old Irish Ale Cup Race)

Fans will recognize many of the names in this race, but none is bigger than the “Queen of Palm Beach” #3 JS SpeedyPebbles from owner Shannon Henry. Not only is she going for a share of the 10K top prize, a win also puts her in a tie with Hustle It Up for the season wins lead. With that patented supreme rush from the box, she will have to be on top of her game to bring home a victory this afternoon. Goes for career #53 and would bring a world wide celebration to the #PebblesNation if she can pull this one off today.

Daily Prayer from Ryan Racing has been one outstanding rookie this year, already qualifying for the Puppy Stakes Finals and running some of the best times of any greyhound this season. Rumor has it that this is Prayer’s last race at Palm, as she will be transferring to Southland Park. Is sitting in a nice spot on the outside here.

Defending champion #6 PJ Smoke Em Out from the Agganis Kennel has a distinct slashing running style that does not bode well for any greyhound in his way. 32 time winner the last two seasons and if he can get the lead today, might just be able to take this all the way home.

I really have enjoyed watching #4 SM Houndman from owners Mike Seeger & Nancy Meyer this season. 16 wins on the season but is in a tough spot with "Smokey" right near him.  Will have to pop the lid better then he ever has in his career to have any shot today.

#1 CRT Craig from the Champions Racing Team is a must on any exotic plays you have because he has hit the ticket in 18 of his 19 starts all time (95%!)

No way I go against Pebbles here, as she continues her legacy as one of the best greyhounds in the country today.

Picks 3-6-8-1

Race 12 (Rooney's Veterans and Civilians Cup Race)

This field is wide open for any of these greyhounds to take the victory.

The most experience comes from #7 Superior Philly from B & B Racing. 119 times around the oval, including 24 wins.

Philly’s Kennel mate #8 Superior Jamaica loves the outside and has won 4 of his 5 starts from this setup all time here. The biggest question will be can get out in front of Philly to have a chance.

#3 Kb’s Gold Rider from Rader Racing has the most talent of this bunch but really has struggled from the mid track setup in the past month. Does have one of the top winning percentages (48%) of any greyhound at Palm Beach.

Look out for #4 Small Bev, who has caught fire in May, reeling off 3 straight wins and showing dynamic closing ability. Any early speedsters better have their head on a swivel if Bev is anywhere near the front this afternoon.

#5 OurVietnam Heros from the Brindle Kennel is a perfect name for this race on this special weekend.

Jamaica’s history in the 8 box had me sold. Possibly might be a good price on it too.

Picks 8-7-4-3

Enjoy the races today everyone!
