Parx Racing Top Picks for April 19

Race 4: $7,500 claiming (1 mile, 70 yards, 2:16 p.m. ET)

#3 Deckology (3-1) opened as the morning line favorite and will make his first start at a route distance since a 1 1/16-mile effort at Parx in November. The five-year-old gelding is also back in the stable of conditioner Joseph Taylor and makes his second start of the season for the high-percentage trainer, who guided Deckology to his only career win at Parx in a one-mile romp on Oct. 26.

#1 We Be There (4-1) will make his fourth start for trainer Mario Dominguez, a 19% winner this meet at Parx who has won twice and placed third with the four-year-old gelding at this track.

Last out, the bay came home third in a 1 1/16-mile claiming race under jockey Jose Gomez, but this time will pair up with Angel Castillo, a 17% winner this meet who won with We Be There at one mile on Feb. 23 and again at 1 1/16 miles on March 16. Castillo is a 40% winner with Dominguez and should get We Be There back on a winning track.

#5 Green Growth (9-2) lost by a neck to We Be There on March 16 and followed up his second-place showing with a win in a $7,500 claiming race at a mile and 70 yards on March 30. The Leslye Bouchard trainee will stay with regular rider Adam Bowman, who has finished in the money with Green Growth in his last three starts.

Race 6: $7,500 claiming (7 furlongs, 3:10 p.m. ET)

#7 Write the Check (9-5) is the favorite in this seven-furlong sprint for fillies and mares. The three-year-old ran sixth last out for trainer Bruce Brown in a one-mile claimer at Aqueduct before she was picked up by conditioner Jordan Bullock, who owns a 9 3-1-1 record at Parx this meet. Bullock is a 40% winner with horses making their first start for the trainer, while Jose Gomez (an 11% winner this meet) will retain the mount for the second straight start.

The cut back in distance may help the daughter of Street Sense return to the winner’s circle, but #5 Miss Alex (4-1) is a more intriguing pick. The four-year-old placed second at Parx on April 6 in a 6 1/2-furlong sprint for trainer Ilkay Kantarmaci, a 19% winner at Parx, and will pair up with hot jockey Ruben Silvera (a 22% winner), who could get Miss Alex back into the winner’s circle for the second time in 18 career starts.

Longer shot #6 Sweet Ballerina (6-1) is another filly to keep an eye on. A descendant of Pioneerof the Nile on her dam’s side, the bay will cut back to seven furlongs after finishing fourth in her last two races at one mile and 1 1/16 miles, respectively. Trainer Felix Flores-Coba is a 21% winner this meet and a 19% winner at sprint distances. Regular rider Jeremy Laprida has won once in four career rides with Sweet Ballerina.

Race 8: $16,000 optional claiming (7 furlongs, 4:04 p.m. ET)

#2 Cant Stop This Man (2-1) will be tough to beat after he flashed a 94 Brisnet Speed rating last out in a six-furlong sprint at Parx in which he finished second by 3/4 lengths. Regular jockey Edwin Rivera also guided the grandson of Into Mischief to second place two back at today’s distance and track, but Cant Stop This Man finished 5 1/2 lengths behind the winner, Flimflam Man, who angled out to the front at the three-eighths pole and drew away.

Conditioner Daniel Velazquez is a 26% winner with horses beaten as the favorite in their last race and has achieved a 7 1-3-2 lifetime record with the gelding at Parx.

#8 Uncle Gary G (4-1) has the chance to improve with a drop in class, plus he has jockey Frankie Pennington (18% winner this meet) back in the silks. Three back, Pennington led the dark bay to a 6 1/2-length victory at six furlongs and a career-best 84 BRIS speed figure. Pennington has been hot the last seven days, going 12 3-4-1, and is a 50% winner when pairing up with trainer Joseph Taylor.

Top pick: #2 Cant Stop This Man

Race 10: $8,000 allowance (6 1/2 furlongs, 4:58 p.m. ET)

#12 Sevier (3-1) is the morning line favorite in a competitive, 12-horse field for three-year-olds and up but finished two lengths behind second-place finisher #10 Sneakiness (7-2) last out in a 6 1/2-furlong sprint at this track on March 29.

Those two should hit the board, but #6 Thousand Percent (6-1) provides value here. The six-year-old gelding won his first start for trainer Leslye Bouchard in a six-furlong claiming race at Parx on March 23 and placed second in his next start, in a 6 1/2-furlong optional claimer in sloppy conditions. Rider Gerardo Milan is a 50% winner with Bouchard and has a 4 2-1-0 record aboard Thousand Percent this season.
