Parx Stakes Spot Plays for Oct. 3
A quartet of black-type events will highlight a very nice card at Parx on Monday.
Race 8 – Bucks County S.
The nine-furlong turf fray seems like an ideal spot for #4 Eons (5-2) in his second local assignment. The Arnaud Delacour trainee was a stakes winner here in June, and the chestnut son of Giant’s Causeway has put in a pair of solid efforts in the interim. If the ground has some give to it, then the six-year-old will be even more formidable beneath Trevor McCarthy.
Race 9 – Liberty Bell S.
A total of nine will go postward in the 6 1/2-furlong dirt dash. #6 Threes Over Deuces (6-1) is not the leading win contender in the well-matched field, but the hard-trying gelding rates as a prime exotics player at a fair price. Conditioned by Gary Capuano, the son of Flat Out is more than capable on his best day, and the seven-year-old also figures to receive a healthy pace to rally into late as well. Mychel Sanchez will be in the stirrups.
Race 10 – President’s Cup S.
An overflow field of 16 is entered for the 1 1/8-mile turf endeavor. #13 Free Data (12-1) got a tough draw while very wide in the deep field but still gives the impression of a nice value play to me. The gray daughter of War Front has put in a pair of solid efforts since joining the Lindsay Schultz shedrow, and the four-year-old also possesses the tactical speed to secure a reasonable trip throughout the affair, too. The Kentucky-bred could light up the tote board with a top showing beneath Jairo Rendon.
Race 11 – Roamin Rachel S.
A smart field of 11 fillies and mares will vie in the 6 1/2-furlong dirt dash. The light bulb went on in July four races back for top pick #7 My Beautiful Belle (6-1), and I will ride with the in-form filly in this spot. The Munnings chestnut has been first or second in her last four dashes and has clearly never been better for Chuck Spina. The four-year-old is versatile and will likely sit a fine trip just off of a contested early tempo with Jorge Vargas in the stirrups.
