Pick 3 of the Week: Aqueduct Saturday

April 25th, 2025

The Pick 3 of the Week will come from Aqueduct on Saturday in a sequence that includes the headliner of the afternoon, the $125,000 Woodhaven S. on the grass for three-year-olds.

Race 5 Wager

$2 Pick 3: 4,9 with 1,2,3,4,6 with 2,10 ($40)

Race 5 – Maiden Claiming

A group of 10 fillies and mares will travel seven panels on the dirt to commence the play. My top selection is Linda Rice’s second time starter #9 Moontown. The bay was outrun at the special weight level at first asking, but this is a major class drop, and I love that Jose Lezcano will take the reins atop the daughter of good win-early sire Echo Town.

Barclay Tagg’s #4 Margaux Treasure goes from synthetic to dirt, route-to-sprint, and the New York-bred lands in a very realistic spot. Katie Davis will ride the win threat.

Race 6 – Woodhaven S.

Seven sophomores will run one-mile on the turf in the centerpiece of the day, and an especially well-matched group has been assembled. I’ll use more than half of the field with Chad Brown’s #1 Septarian, Graham Motion’s #2 End of Romance, Mark Casse’s #3 Dream On, Christophe Clement’s #4 Revolutionnaire, and Barclay Tagg’s #6 Tiz Dashing, making the ticket.

Race 7 – Maiden Special Weight

In the final leg, an overflow field of 16 New York-bred fillies and mares will jaunt six panels on the outer lawn. The Christophe Clement-trained #10 Moonlight Ready showed good early interest before tiring in the lane in a dirt sprint at this venue on debut and figures to thrive with the surface change in the dash. The dark bay More Than Ready filly is bred for the lawn and will have Dylan Davis in the stirrups.

I’ll also take a flier with #2 Night Jasmine for conditioner Horacio de Paz. The gray daughter of English Channel showed little on the dirt at first asking, but the sophomore is bred to love the grass and has a pair of turf-winning siblings, as well. The homebred upgrades to pilot Kendrick Carmouche, too.
