Pimlico Stakes Spot Plays for May 21

May 19th, 2022

A total of eight black-type events will accompany the $1.65 million Preakness S. (G1) at Pimlico on Saturday.

Race 4: Maryland Sprint S. (G3)

A well-matched field of boys will go six panels on the dirt in this spot. I will take a shot with Oaklawn Park invader #5 Full Authority (5-1) for Greg Compton. The Summer Front five-year-old has never been better, and I will tab him to run his winning streak to three in the heat. Jon Court comes in to ride, which is a positive.

Race 7: Skipat S.

Fillies and mares will sprint six furlongs in a good betting affair. I will center my wagers around a pair of players in the cast. #6 Cilla (7-2) is the one to beat on paper for Brett Brinkman. The 2021 Prioress S. (G2) queen drops down from the Grade 1 ranks in a much more realistic spot with Tyler Gaffalione in the stirrups.

#9 Time Limit (6-1) has done her best running on the dirt for Mike Maker and seems poised for a positive result on Saturday. The Bustin Stones five-year-old was a stakes victress in Maryland two prior, and the ultra-consistent mare has won or placed in at least 11 races in succession. Irad Ortiz Jr. will take the reins.

Race 8: Dinner Party S. (G2)

The boys will run 1 1/16 miles on the turf in this tilt. #1 Tango Tango Tango (10-1) is 3-for-4 with a Grade 1 second from a quartet of races with blinkers on for Jack Sisterson. The Tourist colt faces a tough task in the race, but he might be lone speed from the rail if sent early by Gaffalione. I will use the bay in all of the exotics, as well as in my multi-race wagers.

Race 11: Sir Barton S.

I am excited to see #5 B Dawk (5-2) in his debut with winners for Doug O’Neill. The expensive Gormley colt broke through with a dominant maiden tally at Keeneland in his first try with blinkers off most recently, and while I don’t love the price, I do believe that the chestnut is a good one with a lot of potential going forward.

Good Luck!
