Pink Lloyd the one to beat in Jacques Cartier Stakes

Canadian living legend #2 Pink Lloyd (4-5) will make his 2021 debut in the $150,000 Jacques Cartier S. (G3) at Woodbine on Sunday. The 2017 Horse of the Year has been named Canada’s champion male sprinter for four straight seasons and will look to build upon his legacy this campaign. The son of Old Forester will also look to defend his crown in the race once again, as he's come out victorious in the Jacques Cartier in four straight editions. I was considering trying to knock off the superstar for value purposes, but I simply can’t go against his class nor the 26-for-33 mark that he possesses on the oval. The Tiller trainee will have Daisuke Fukumoto in the stirrups.

In the battle for second place, #4 Readyforprimetime (10-1) has the most appeal to me at a good number. The dark bay son of More Than Ready is lightly raced with proven stakes quality when sprinting on the lawn, and the five-year-old just might move forward in his first run over a synthetic strip. Bred in the Bluegrass State, the $220,000 yearling purchase makes his second appearance since January and first since joining the De Paulo outfit.

Readyforprimetime shows four solid morning drills in preparation of his local bow, and he appears to be the fleetest contender in the cast as well. I expect pilot Justin Stein to hustle him out of the gate to try and steal this contest on the front end at a square price.

#5 Super Stonehenge (2-1) is an obvious must-use for Mark Casse. Speightstown homebred sports a strong 6-3-2-0 mark at Woodbine, and he finished two lengths clear of Pink Lloyd when runner-up in the Kennedy Road S. (G2) in November. The chestnut has been well handled to this stage of his development, and he could be poised for a big second half of the season north of the border. Patrick Husbands will ride.
