Santa Anita 5 | 6:05 pm ET G2 Royal Heroine for 3yo&Up F&M going 1 mi (T)

The Saturday card at Santa Anita is packed full of stakes action and it gets started with the Grade 2 Royal Heroine for fillies and mares on the turf. PARRANDA clocks in as the morning line favorite at a lukewarm 3-1. She won the Grade 3 Wilshire two back then finished third in the Grade 1 Gamely last month. The drop back to a flat mile will help, but must overcome post 10. HABIBI was supposed to run earlier in the meet but scratched and is now making her first U.S. start after running in New Zealand and Australia. This is her first race since finishing fourth in the Grade 1 Australian Oaks in April 2013. She is the only Grade 1 winner in the field and if bet, may be a good thing. The one thing this race lacks is pace, but the one filly that does not lack early zip is KATHLEEN ROSE. The Good Journey filly has never been better, wining her last three starts by a combined 5 lengths and may be able to handle the rise in class. DUTCHESSA is the question mark for the Red Baron Barn LLC and trainer Darrell Vienna. The British-bred DUTCHESSA has run in France and Germany with five wins, three seconds and six thirds. Her Racing Post Ratings suggest a mare that could run very well in the states and maybe worth including in any trifecta or superfecta wager.
