Playing the $10,000 Hoosier Pick 4
by John Mucciolo
Hoosier Park offers a $10,000 guaranteed pool in the early Pick-4 (Race 3-through-6).
And with the Winsurance promo, it’s hard not to take a swing.
Here is my analysis:
RACE 3
Ten fillies and mares will pace one mile in the opening leg. #4 WISH UPON A ROCK (5-2) has crossed the line in first or second on five straight occasions. Rockin Image filly was a winner at the level three back and is a must use.
#2 BRINGHOMETHEMAIL (8-1) and #8 SHADOW’S A VIRGIN (7-2), are also included as contenders.
RACE 4
$5,000 claimer for fillies and mares attracted 10 and I see it as a two-horse race. #7 PUMPKINSPICELATTE (7-2) is plunging down a bunch of class levels today. Four-year-old ran evenly with $20,000 foes most recently and looms large.
#9 SKYWAY DUSTY (3-1) brings top form into the field off a pair of daylight tallies in succession. Eight-year-old mare ships here from Hawthorne, though she has local experience. The morning-line choice defeated similar on this course in late June and could lead all the way.
RACE 5
Especially competitive pacing event lacks a standout. #1 FLASHY TRICK (7-1) needed a race last time and should improve today. Gelding gets the rail and driver Michael Oosting.
#6 ARMY OF ONE (7-2) has been facing better as has #9 TRELANE (7-1), the latter of which draws the widest post.
RACE 6
Closing leg is for juvenile colts and geldings bred in the Hoosier State. #4 DONAVAN Z TAM (8-1) exits a swift qualifier in preparation of this for 15 percent conditioner Macomber. Gelded two-year-old looks to be of solid value.
#2 RAINBOW DESIGN (6-1) was fifth behind a fine winner who paced the mile in a speedy, 1:54.20 most recently. Bixler trainee lands in a more facile spot today from the two hslot. Improvement is expected from the chestnut.
SUGGESTED WAGER (.50-cent Pick 4)
2,4,8 with 7,9 with 1,6,9 with 2,4 = $18
Good Luck!
