Pool 5 of 2022 Kentucky Derby Future Wager to close before final preps Saturday

April 5th, 2022

The field for the fifth and final pool of the 2022 Kentucky Derby Future Wager (KDFW) has been announced by Churchill Downs, but there will be a new twist for bettors to consider in their approach this week.

In virtually every pool over the lifetime of the KDFW, wagering has ended on early Sunday evening. However, wagering on Pool 5 closes this Saturday at 4:30 p.m. (ET), before the final round of major preps — the Blue Grass (G1), Wood Memorial (G2), and Santa Anita Derby (G1) — will be run.

Wagering on Pool 5 of the KDFW will have an earlier start, too, beginning at noon (ET) on Thursday.

Louisiana Derby (G2) winner #7 Epicenter has been installed as the 5-1 morning-line favorite in Pool 5. #17 Smile Happy, a likely Blue Grass participant, is listed at 6-1.

Among the trio listed at 8-1 is Florida Derby (G1) winner #21 White Abarrio. #9 Forbidden Kingdom and #11 Messier, both of whom will line up in Saturday's Santa Anita Derby, were also pegged at 8-1.

Other KDFW entrants expected to race this weekend include #5 Early Voting (Wood Memorial), #6 Emmanuel (Blue Grass), #8 Ethereal Road (Blue Grass), #12 Mo Donegal (Wood Memorial), #13 Morello (Wood Memorial), and #22 Zandon (Blue Grass).

Win and exacta wagering are available on Pool 5 at TwinSpires.com. Brisnet.com past performances and real-time odds on the KDFW will be available before the pool opens Thursday online at https://www.kentuckyderby.com/wager/future-wager.
