Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for July 26

Race One:

1st: #5 DONALD – was in good form here last year before going to the sidelines. He returned with three straight out-of-the-money performances but woke up last out when he gunned to the front before getting caught at almost 16-1.

2nd: #2 JARETH – horse for the course just missed here to begin the year against much better company then did nothing next time out. He raced evenly last out and now drops down to bottom-level claimers for Rory Barron.

3rd: #1 LADY MARVEL – winless in nine starts here but she has enough speed to keep up early from the rail.

 

Race Two:

1st: #5 GOODTIME ARTIE – just missed two starts back going this distance when he rallied from way back then was a game winner to break his maiden in career start number 12. He stretches back out in distance for Matt Kintz, who wins 26% going short to long.

2nd: #7 BRYTON’S D J – just missed going gate to wire in his first start in five months then was badly outrun the next time out. He did nothing last out against this conditioned claiming level for former leading trainer Teresa Connelly.

3rd: #3 K. K. ICHIKAWA – drops down in class off two even efforts here for Mike LeCesse.

 

Race Three:

1st: #4 WOODCHUCK – went gate to wire two starts back against similar company going a two-turn mile in very fast time. He chased an extremely fast pace last out before weakening as the 6-5 favorite. Addiel Ayala rides back — a 27% winner with Mike Rogers.

2nd: #2 CLOUD PLAY – moves up in class after winning a long sprint by five lengths as the 4-5 favorite. The gelded son of Into Mischief was claimed out of that win by Gerry Brooks, who wins 19% with this move and 29% with Antonio Gallardo.

3rd: #1 MCQUEEN’S BULLITT – broke his maiden in start 14 then came right back to win again going two turns.

 

Race Four:

1st: #2 FAST MULE – first-time starter from the first crop of Army Mule, who has gotten off to a good start. She is out of a dam by Broken Vow who has produced four winners from four foals to race, including two stakes winners.

2nd: #4 ANA L – held well to be third here in her well-bet career debut going this distance. Katy Cheeks wins 16% with her synthetic-track starters, and the daughter of Alternation is a half-sister to a graded stakes winner of $284K.

3rd: #8 KETO FRIENDLY – flashed speed for a half-mile in fast time and gets Avery Whisman, who wins 26% with her sprint rides.

 

Race Five:

1st: #3 ROLLING MO – raced evenly sprinting then stretched out to two turns and romped by over six lengths. She comes back against the same level for Randy Russell, who wins 21% of first starts after a win and gets Walber Alencar back aboard.

2nd: #6 THISAINTJUMPSTREET – was a good second two starts back when stretched out as the odds-on favorite then came back with a third going six furlongs in her first start off the claim by Ed Rojas, who wins 37% going short to long.

3rd: #5 AT LEAST – finished up last year with an even third going two turns then returned this year with an even sprint.

 

Race Six:

1st: #8 DEVRA WARRIOR – first-time starter from Tim Hamm, who wins 15% with his debut runners and 19% with his maiden special weight starters. The daughter of Malibu Moon (13% debut winners) is out of a dam that has produced a stakes winner.

2nd: #1 MEGAN MAKIN MONEY – first-time starter from Ron Potts, who wins 13% with his debut runners and 18% with his maiden special weight starters. The daughter of Kantharos (15% debut winners) is out of a stakes-winning dam.

3rd: #9 SWAG IS ON – first-time starter from Larry Rivelli, who wins 24% with his debut runners and gets Pablo Morales.

 

Race Seven:

1st: #3 NIMITZ CLASS – added blinkers earlier this year and promptly won three straight races, including a similar stakes race on the dirt at Penn National. The son of Munnings rallied for second against open company at Laurel last out.

2nd: #5 NICE ACE – horse for the course has five wins and six seconds here in 11 starts. He was a sharp winner here two starts back in a long sprint then was an even second going this distance against open-company allowance foes.

3rd: #6 GOOD ON YA – led to the deep stretch here last year in this race and has two sprints to get ready for this.

 

Race Eight:

1st: #7 DUN RIGHT – was badly outrun in his first two career starts here but woke up last out when Lasix was added and he was only beaten three lengths. Glenn Wismer wins 13% with his synthetic-track starters and he gets Avery Whisman back aboard.

2nd: #4 CALL ME PEAK – ran poorly here last year in his first two career starts. He returned this year with a good third against bottom-level maiden claimers for Randy Russell, who wins 24% when he rides Alberto Burgos.

3rd: #6 SHIRLEY’S SHERMAN – has had many chances but woke up last out with a good second going 5 1/2 furlongs.
