Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for Aug. 10

Race One:

1st: #2 THISLADYIS THE LAW – broke her maiden in her seventh try then came right back to beat winners going gate to wire in very fast time. Daughter of Constitution tired late last out when moved up to open allowance foes and draws inside today.

2nd: #6 TAKE TO THE SKIES – ran well over the winter at Tampa Bay Downs on the turf then shipped to Monmouth Park and tired in an off-the-turf event. She had a rough trip there last out and now drops down to $25K claimers for Aldana Spieth.

3rd: #1 JEAN V’S LEGACY – beat this claiming level last year here the last time she faced them and picks up Pablo Morales.

 

Race Two:

1st: #1 DAYLIGHTS AWASTIN – showed nothing here last year in her career debut then returned eight months late with a decent effort on the turf at Mountaineer Park. She did nothing next out then shipped here and rallied for second with first-time Lasix.  

2nd: #7 CAROLINA SAND– did nothing in her first two career starts here going short. She stretched out to two turns and showed high speed for six furlongs then came back and ran the same race. Glenn Wismer wins 13% with his route starters.    

3rd: #8 SPRING INTO ACTION – showed good speed in her career debut going two turns on the turf last year then tired last out.

 

Race Three:

1st: #4 ZORA – rallied extremely wide to get up for second in her career debut here going five furlongs and now stretches out to two turns for Tim Girten, who wins 12% going short to long. Daughter of Broken Vow is out of a dam by A.P. Indy.

2nd: #5 INDIAN SPIDEROO – was an even fourth in fast time going five furlongs in her career debut for Matt Kintz, who wins 25% going short to long. Avery Whisman wins 26% when he rides for Kintz.

3rd: #1 ELSA’S ROCKET – daughter of Ghostzapper tries two turns again but this time against fillies.

 

Race Four:

1st: #2 RUNAWAY PHYLLIS – can be tough if she can make the lead, which it looks like she can against these. Daughter of Mshawish was an even third in fast time going five furlongs on the turf at Mountaineer Park and shows a bullet workout here.

2nd: #5 CANCAN SAREE – took her 11 tries to break her maiden but she did it with style here last out. Her last three starts here were solid for Bill Martin, who wins 19% with his overall claimers and 18% on synthetic tracks.

3rd: #9 LOOKING FOR LOVE – was a sharp maiden winner two starts back in start 15, but she came right back to run well next out.

 

Race Five:

1st: #6 FOX ROX – horse for the course dropped down to this level and battled to the deep stretch in a long sprint. He shortens to six furlongs for Mark Hoffman, who wins 18% with his claimers, and he is able to get Pablo Morales back aboard.  

2nd: #7 SAMURAI ZIP – ultimate horse for the course has won 21 times here and beat this claiming level three starts back. He draws much better today after breaking from the rail last out and loses Morales to the top choice.

3rd: #3 JARETH – had been running against much better then dropped to the bottom and won easily as the odds-on favorite.

 

Race Six:

1st: #6 GOLOVKIN – had two sprints here against better company then stretched out to two turns while dropping down to this class level and he was an even third. Rocco Bowen rides back — 19% when he rides for John Guciardo.

2nd: #5 HONORABLE – speedball has yet to win here in eight tries, but he has five placings. His last five starts have been against this claiming level going two turns, and they all were solid efforts. Ron Allen Jr. rides back.

3rd: #3 SUMMER PALACE – drops down in class after racing well against much better in his last three starts.

 

Race Seven:

1st: #2 ONE THAT GOT AWAY – broke her maiden two starts back here then just missed against this state-bred allowance level when she surged to the lead in the deep stretch. Mike Trombetta wins 24% with his synthetic-track starters.

2nd: #5 MYSTIC TWIST – broke her maiden by over seven lengths going two turns in only her second career start. She showed high speed before tiring in a long sprint against stakes foes last out so she drops in class here.

3rd: #3 ITALIAN TWIN – was claimed for $10K at Oaklawn Park and shipped here with a pair of even efforts going two turns.

 

Race Eight:

1st: #3 MORE RANSOM – was a good second in her second career start then she raced evenly last out. Tim Girten gives her the full makeover with first-time Lasix and blinkers. Girten wins an amazing 32% of first starts after being beaten as the favorite.

2nd: #6 VACCINA – made her Tapeta debut here two starts back off the five-month layoff and she was a game second. She came back against this maiden level with an even third and shows a bullet, five-furlong workout since then.  

3rd: #8 HIDDEN MEDAL – woke up two starts back and missed by a length when blinkers and Lasix were added.
