Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for Aug. 30
Race One:
1st: #6 LADY MARVEL – has never won here in 11 tries. She went gate to wire two starts back on the dirt as the odds-on favorite at Mountaineer Park then shipped back and held on for third after breaking slowly from post one.
2nd: #4 BROOKLYNS SURPRISE – returned off the long layoff and won from off the pace against state-bred allowance foes. She was an even second next time out then did not run badly against open allowance foes. She drops to the bottom today.
3rd: #8 ODD GAL – another one that is winless here but could get in the money with a clear trip from the outside.
Race Two:
1st: #5 MIDNIGHT CHOIR – raced on the turf in New York and Canada to begin her career then tired some last out going seven furlongs on the Tapeta at Woodbine. Speedy daughter of Maclean’s Music should be helped by the cutback to six furlongs.
2nd: #1 KIVALINA – just missed in her career debut on the Tapeta at Gulfstream Park. She was badly beaten in three subsequent turf starts but came here and was second against this maiden level going this distance.
3rd: #6 FLOAT AWAY – flashed brief speed going this distance then was a game second when stretched out to two turns.
Race Three:
1st: #6 LA PANDA – was right there turning home after some traffic in her career debut. Daughter of The Big Beast throws fast ones so this filly could come out running with a race under her belt. Erin Walker rides back — 10% with her sprint rides.
2nd: #1 PARISIAN SUMMER – flashed some speed on a sloppy track at Delaware Park to begin her career but lost all chance in a turf sprint last out when she broke dead last after being bumped around. Ricky Hendriks wins 27% going from turf to synthetic.
3rd: #4 CHEAP AND CHEERFUL – ran well for a half-mile in her well-bet career debut here against better company.
Race Four:
1st: #2 YADI – horse for the course was a sharp winner two starts back going this distance in very fast time. Claimed that day, he rallied for third when stuck behind a slow pace and now drops down in class for Cathy Rosantz — 4-for-6 second off the claim.
2nd: #5 ST. PADDY’S DADDY – dropped down to this claiming level two starts back and held well for second. He came back and won going away and tries them again for Tim Girten, who wins 26% first start after a win.
3rd: #6 SIDE TRACKED – horse for the course has three firsts and two seconds here in five starts here this year.
Race Five:
1st: #7 INCLUSIVE – has yet to win here in 10 tries but has four seconds and three thirds. Nearly all of them were against better company, and he now drops to the bottom for Lance Stokes, who wins 26% with his route mounts.
2nd: #8 BLUE SKY’S ABOVE – stretches out to two turns off a series of even sprints against better company. He could not overcome post one two starts back then raced evenly here going six furlongs. John Bourke removes blinkers.
3rd: #6 HOLY TRUTH – rallied from way back in a wide trip to get up for second against these.
Race Six:
1st: #2 GREY INVASION – made his Tapeta debut here last out against this claiming level and won by a head at decent odds. Mike LeCesse brings him back against the same group — 15% first start after a win and with his overall claimers.
2nd: #5 SUMMER PALACE – ran third against much better company two starts in a row then dropped down to this level and rallied for second as the 17-10 favorite. Leland Hayes wins an amazing 47% of first starts after being beaten as the favorite.
3rd: #4 LUIS TWO GUNS – showed good speed here in his Tapeta debut then opened up a big lead to the deep stretch last out.
Race Seven:
1st: #2 HEIRLOOM KITTEN – won his first two starts on Tapeta here this year then was a game second in a slow-paced race. He came against this allowance level last out, and his late rally fell just short. Pablo Morales rides back — 37% for Bill Martin.
2nd: #9 FLAWLESS BOURBON – in the money in all five of his Presque Isle starts and broke his maiden on the Tapeta at Woodbine three years ago. He was a game winner two starts back then was an even third last out.
3rd: #8 DIGITAL FOOTPRINT – gelding by the great Giant’s Causeway just missed two starts back then raced wide last out.
Race Eight:
1st: #4 AMERICAN CHAOS – faded for third as the odds-on favorite in his first start off the claim. He came back against this conditioned claiming level last out and was used hard from post one to the final yards, where he gave it up.
2nd: #8 C C’S KITTEN – improved a lot when dropped down in class two starts back when he was a good second. He didn’t do much when moved up in class off the claim and now drops down to his original price.
3rd: #10 AUDACIOUS ANTOINE – rallied from far back to get second here in his Presque Isle debut against this class level.
