Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for Aug. 9

August 9th, 2022

 Race One:

1st: #4 THISAINTJUMPSTREET – rallied from off the pace to get third going six furlongs two starts back in her first start off the claim by Ed Rojas then missed by a head when stretched out to two turns.

2nd: #5 ROLLING MO – romped by over six lengths going two turns off a series of sprint races. She came back with a good third behind the top choice as the odds-on favorite last out. Walber Alencar rides back — 26% with his sprint rides this year.

3rd: #2 MOANA’S TALE – one-dimensional closer rallied nicely going six furlongs here last out.

Race Two:

1st: #4 STARSHIP MACYS – raced evenly in her first start off the claim by Nelson Figueroa then dropped down to this price and went gate to wire to win by over six lengths in very fast time. Eddie Dominguez rides back — 17% with Figueroa.

2nd: #3 A REAL HERO – had been racing on turf against allowance foes before shipping here and beating this claiming level by over three lengths as the even-money favorite. Claimed that day by Tim Hamm, she came back to miss by a nose.

3rd: #1 KULTHUM – broke her maiden on the Tapeta at Turfway Park going two turns and won here last out against these.

Race Three:

1st: #4 COLONEL POPPY – rallied some for second in his career debut here against this level then showed better speed before weakening. Matt Kintz wins 24% of first starts after being beaten as the favorite and against maiden special weight company.

2nd: #2 DONTINVADEMYSPACE – is winless in five starts already, but the first three came against open company, then the next two were against this state-bred maiden level. Gerry Brooks wins 20% with his synthetic-track starters and 29% with Antonio Gallardo.

3rd: #7 DAWGMENTALITY – showed high speed from the rail before tiring in his well-bet career debut here.

Race Four:

1st: #2 SUMMER BOSS – finally broke his maiden two starts back in start No. 11 when he went gate to wire to hold on as the 11-10 favorite. He showed good speed last out and will probably do so again today with Rocco Bowen.

2nd: #1 EL POLICIA – broke his maiden on the dirt at Tampa Bay Downs when he went gate to wire then shipped here and was a dull fourth behind a next-out winner. He drops way down in class while drawing the rail with Ron Allen Jr.

3rd: #6 GOODTIME ARTIE – broke his maiden in start No. 11 then came back with a good third going two turns.

Race Five:

1st: #6 GOLDEN SURVIVOR – was third in his Tapeta debut off the six-month layoff three starts back then broke his maiden next time out. Claimed that day by Nelson Figueroa, he came back and missed by a nose against this level behind a next-out winner.

2nd: #5 STUDYLONGSTDYWRONG – broke his maiden as the 9-10 favorite two starts back then moved up to $20K claimers and was an even third behind a next-out winner. Mike Rogers drops him down in class and gets Scott Spieth back aboard.

3rd: #3 GUN LAP – showed good speed in a long sprint last out here and drops way down in class today.

Race Six:

1st: #1 MIDNIGHT PIRATE – dropped down in class two starts back and won going this distance then came back against this allowance level and rallied wide for fourth. Avery Whisman rides back and wins 21% when he rides for Glenn Wismer.

2nd: #7 HAPPY BEE – went gate to wire two starts back then was shuffled back from post one and was able to rally for third. Daughter of Distorted Humor drops down a bit in class for Mike Pappada, who wins 15% with his route mounts.

3rd: #4 CHARLOTTE THE BRIT – returns to two turns after winning a sprint coming from way behind.

Race Seven:

1st: #8 GOODIE GOOMER – won going two turns then did nothing in a stakes race going six furlongs in outrageous time. Back at two turns against this allowance level, he missed by a length when he was stuck behind a slow pace.

2nd: #10 DIGITAL FOOTPRINT – ran well to begin the season with three straight sprint races. He stretched out to two turns and was an even third then just missed going a mile in very fast time. Son of Giant’s Causeway draws outside with Avery Whisman.

3rd: #3 HEIRLOOM KITTEN – horse for the course won his first two starts here then was third in a very slow-paced race.

Race Eight:

1st: #8 BREWING STORM – still a maiden after 13 tries but the gelded son of Into Mischief was an even third in his Tapeta debut going two turns then was third again in a long sprint. He trains on the Tapeta at Fair Hill training center for Alcina Rawles.

2nd: #3 DUN RIGHT – raced evenly two starts back in a long sprint behind the top choice, then he showed much better speed last out. Son of Exaggerator stretches out to two turns from an inside draw for Glenn Wismer, who wins 20% going short to long.

3rd: #2 OLD FORTY FIVE – best race was two starts back here going this distance against better maiden claimers.
