Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for August 1

Race One:

1st: #3 ROGERS GINGER – still a maiden after 10 tries but since dropping to this maiden claiming level here, he ran two decent races. Matt Kintz wins 22% with his synthetic-track starters, and the last 169 of them show a flat-bet profit.

2nd: #7 OLE G MAN – showed good speed going two turns here in his second career start then dropped back to six furlongs last out and was an even third when blinkers were added. Alice Beckman wins 11% with her sprint rides.

3rd: #5 JOYFUL CANDY – ran well on the dirt at the Fair Grounds back in March then caught two muddy tracks at Churchill Downs.

 

Race Two:

1st: #2 GET SASSY – horse for the course romped by three lengths here in her second start of the year then raced evenly when moved up in class. She fits with these state-bred claimers perfectly for Justin Morrell, who wins 13% with his claimers.   

2nd: #6 ULTIMATE BARONESS – moves up a notch in class off the claim by Justin Morrell. She did not show much in her first start off the long layoff then was much closer last out. Ron Allen Jr. rides back.

3rd: #5 LAWN DART – has been claimed and reclaimed by Gerry Brooks twice already this year. She won three straight sprints then tired last out against this class level. Brooks wins 19% first start off the claim and 22% first start after being beaten as the favorite.

 

Race Three:

1st: #6 SERENE WARRIOR – just missed in a sprint here off the layoff in her Tapeta debut then ran well in her next three starts going two turns. Daughter of Warrior’s Reward drops down in class and distance for Tim Girten and gets Scott Spieth back.

2nd: #3 TERRAZZO – ran well on the Tapeta at Turfway Park then flashed brief speed in a turf sprint at Indiana. She shipped here and crushed maiden claimers and now takes on winners for Bill Cowans, who wins 23% of first starts after a maiden win.

3rd: #4 VAVITE – broke her maiden on dirt then shipped here three starts later and just missed at class and distance.

 

Race Four:

1st: #8 K’S LITTLE BILL – went gate to wire two starts back going this distance in good time then came back and surged to the lead in the stretch before tiring. Bill Martin wins 26% of first starts after being beaten as the favorite and 42% with Pablo Morales.

2nd: #1 WORBOTHOR – has won 15 times here with 12 placings in 37 starts. He beat this claiming level the last time he faced them then moved up in class. He drops down in class for Shelly Radosevich, who wins 19% with her overall claimers.

3rd: #2 BIG CHICKEN MAN – returned off the long layoff and went gate to wire then tired last out after contesting a fast pace.  

 

Race Five:

1st: #6 SUMMER PALACE – beat cheaper three starts back when he finished up extremely well. Son of Giant’s Causeway couldn't take advantage of a fast pace next time out then dropped back to this class level and held on for third.

2nd: #3 EXTRASEXYBIGDADDEE – drops down in class looking for relief after two solid efforts to begin the season. He ran poorly last out with no apparent excuse against first-level allowance foes for Mike Trombetta, who wins 23% with his synthetic-track starters.

3rd: #4 THRIVE – went gate to wire at Santa Anita two starts back then tired in a long sprint at Churchill Downs.

 

Race Six:

1st: #6 TIDAL WATERS – beat this claiming level in her first start off the claim by Tim Girten then came back to win again by seven lengths as the odds-on favorite. She missed by a neck last out against males and meets the ladies today.  

2nd: #5 JULIE’S GRACE – made her Tapeta debut here two starts back and went gate to wire. She came back to win again for John Guciardo, who wins 16% of first starts after a win. Avery Whisman wins 26% with her sprint rides.

3rd: #1 WHISTLER DIXIE – horse for the course has plenty of back class and could be tough if she shakes loose on the lead.  

 

Race Seven:

1st: #1 ENJOY THE MUSIC – horse for the course returned here this year and promptly won three straight sprints. He held on for third last out in very fast time and now moves up to open allowance foes for Matt Kintz. Avery Whisman rides back.

2nd: #5 COACH P – did nothing in his career debut in a turf sprint at Aqueduct two years ago. Off until three weeks ago, he came back and won easily on the dirt at Finger Lakes. Son of Distorted Humor takes on open allowance foes for Stacy Torelli.  

3rd: #6 JURA – dangerous speedball from Hall of Famer Shug McGaughey gets leading rider Pablo Morales.

 

Race Eight:

1st: #7 CHARLIE CHARLIE (Scratched) – moves up in class off two strong wins in his last three starts and his other start was a second. He beat allowance foes here last year and has plenty of back class to handle this minor move.

2nd: #3 COUNTY COURT – has had five starts on the Tapeta, and they all came this year. After being claimed by Ed Rojas, he won two in a row going two turns then dropped back to six furlongs and raced evenly. Pablo Morales rides back.

3rd: #2 MAKES GOOD SENSE – had two good seconds against this claiming level in his last three starts.
