Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for July 14

Race One:

1st: #5 CAMINO DE SANTIAGO – rallied for second in his well-bet career debut here going 4 1/2 furlongs. He came out of that race with a fast, five-furlong breeze to stay focused for Tim Hamm, who wins 11% with his second-time starters and 22% on synthetic tracks.

2nd: #6 SWELTER – first-time starter from Tim Hamm who wins 15% with his debut runners and 17% when they debut at this maiden level. The son of Tiznow (8% debut winners) is out of a dam by Bernardini (10% debut winners) that is a half-sister to a graded stakes winner.  

3rd: #1 DAWGMENTALITY – first-time starter by Smarty Jones (13% debut winners) is a half to five other winners.

Race Two:

1st: #4 GOLDEN EMPEROR – horse for the course has had two preps to get ready for this and he has plenty of races in the near past that could win this. Mike Rogers wins 16% third start off the layoff and 15% with his claimers.

2nd: #5 CATHMOR – comes in off a similar pattern as the top choice but had an excuse last out from post one where he had to chase the pace. Mike Pappada wins 16% third start off the layoff and 17% with his synthetic-track starters.

3rd: #1 CANDY MY BOY – won here three starts back then came back with a good second next time out.

Race Three:

1st: #4 HARD COUNT – off a six-furlong prep, he went gate to wire to beat open allowance foes. He came back as the odds-on favorite and did it again when nobody could get within two lengths of him. Antonio Gallardo rides again.

2nd: #1 ORAZIO – rallied from way back to get second two starts back behind the top choice then could not overcome post eight in a wide trip. He gets major relief today from post one and gets Ron Allen, Jr. who wins 15% going long.    

3rd: #5 CHIC N WILBUR – might not have the back class of some of these but his recent form is solid.

Race Four:

1st: #5 ARTUME – raced evenly in her Tapeta debut two starts back at Turfway Park, she then missed by a length on the turf at Mountaineer Park. Aaron West wins 33% with this maiden dropdown and 26% with his overall maiden claimers.

2nd: #6 DUPLICATED – didn’t do much in two sprint preps but then stretched out to two turns and her late rally only fell a length short. The daughter of Animal Kingdom comes back against the same maiden claiming level.

3rd: #1 WINGS OF LOVE – did nothing in her first two career starts against maiden special weight company and now drops in class.

Race Five:

1st: #1 AMAZON LIZZIE – horse for the course has only been able to get third in four starts this year but she has plenty of back class. Shelly Radosevich wins 18% with her overall claimers and 17% on synthetic tracks.

2nd: #2 DATA PRINCESS – could not overcome post nine in her first start off the long layoff, then won going away last out here. She draws well for a repeat performance and gets Addiel Ayala back aboard – 21% riding for Louis Ruberto.

3rd: #5 LITTLE CHRISTY – shows up in here in good form on the dirt and has a good record on synthetics in the past.

Race Six:

1st: #5 AULT – horse for the course finished up last year with a sharp win, then opened up this year with two straight wins. Claimed two starts back, he raced evenly when moved up off the claim and now drops back down for Shelly Radosevich.  

2nd: #6 ST. PADDY’S DADDY – added blinkers four starts back and won by nine lengths here going a two-turn mile in fast time. He just missed against these next out then was a fast fourth against much better company.

3rd: #1 HONOR COLLECTION – raced wide in his Tapeta debut, then came back and won his next two against cheaper.

Race Seven:

1st: #2 MS TEMPTATION – rallied for second against this allowance level in his PID debut then came back and missed by a head going the same distance. Claude Brownfield III wins 13% with his sprinters and synthetic-track starters.

2nd: #4 IDEAL BREEZE – is winless in three starts against this allowance level but in all three races she made threatening moves. I like that she draws in the middle in a long sprint and Antonio Gallardo can time his move better.

3rd: #5 BROOKLYNS SURPRISE – beat state-bred allowance foes two starts back of the long layoff and moves up in class.

Race Eight:

1st: #4 SNOW JOB – took him 10 tries to break his maiden, which he did here against rock bottom ones, but came back and ran extremely well against decent winners. The son of Munnings drops down in class and keeps Pablo Morales – 56% riding for Ed Rojas.  

2nd: #2 SILVER TOKEN – was a sharp winner two starts back from post nine at 7-1 odds against similar company. He raced wide without a strong enough finish to get third as the 17-10 favorite and tries them again with Alexis Valdes back aboard.

3rd: #5 KICK IT CHARLIE – turns back to a sprint after showing high speed going two turns last out.
