Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for July 21

Race One:

1st: (3) SAMURAI LEGACY – speedball has won five times here and began this season with two easy wins against bottom claimers. He moved up some in class and showed high speed each time and could be tough if he shakes loose early.

2nd: (1) DOM THE BOMB – not a horse for the course but has won 12 times on synthetic tracks elsewhere. After showing good speed in two starts on the dirt, he came here and just missed going gate to wire against this claiming level.

3rd: (2) GRANDE TORTUGON – got up in time last out against this level and draws well with Alice Beckman.

Race Two:

1st: (2) A REAL HERO – was being outrun on turf and dirt before coming here and beating this claiming level by over three lengths as the even-money favorite. Tim Hamm wins 23% of first starts after a win and gets the underrated Rocco Bowen.

2nd: (3) UP IN ARMS – did nothing in her first two career starts but woke up here when dropped down to maiden claimers for the first time. She came back to beat similar claimers last out for Tim Hamm, who wins 44% of the time with Pablo Morales.

3rd: (5) BOURBON BLAST – dropped down to this level and was a game second, and tries them again.

Race Three:

1st: (2) DANCE OR STROLL – just missed two starts back as the 6-5 favorite when she rallied behind a blistering pace. She won going away as the 3-10 favorite last out and goes for win No. 13 here for Shelly Radosevich — 23% first start after a win.

2nd: (1) DON’T MAKE ME BEG – ran similar races two races in a row then won easily last out at 9-10 odds. Daughter of Oxbow comes back with Pablo Morales. Gerry Brooks wins 20% with his overall claimers.

3rd: (4) CHARLIV – won here going 5 1/2 furlongs then moved way up in class when claimed by Ron Potts.

Race Four:

1st: (2) ENJOY THE MUSIC – horse for the course has won six of nine starts here and is 3-for-3 this year. She beat this starter allowance level last out and comes back with Avery Whisman. Matt Kintz wins 32% first start after a win.

2nd: (3) THE SINNER IS YOU – won his last two starts here last year then won her first four starts, including an open allowance race. Son of Into Mischief was a good third in outrageous time against stakes foes and now drops back in class.

3rd: (5) COUNTY COURT – turns back to a sprint after winning his last two starts here going two turns.

Race Five:

1st: (5) ATLANTIC SUN – horse for the course has won seven times in 11 starts, including two starts this year against this claiming level. Mike Pappada wins 27% first start after a win and 15% with Erin Walker.

2nd: (3) FOX ROX – horse for the course has won 12 times here and is still tough at the age of 11. He ran well here in his last two starts and drops in class for Mark Hoffman, who wins 17% with his synthetic-track starters.

3rd: (6) WAPITI WAY – returned off the long layoff with a sharp win then raced evenly in his next two starts here.

Race Six:

1st: (8) ALPHA PREDATOR – took him 13 times to break his maiden then he came back against similar claimers and won going away at odds-on. Son of Animal Kingdom has to overcome a wide draw with Pablo Morales back aboard.

2nd: (7) LUIS TWO GUNS – makes his synthetic-track debut at the age of six. He romped going this distance in fast time on the turf at Tampa Bay Downs last out and could be tough if Erin Walker is able to put him on the lead.

3rd: (2) GOLOVKIN – stretches out to two turns off two decent sprints against better company.

Race Seven:

1st: (4) LEONARD’S LEGACY – speedball returned to the races two starts back with a good second as the 3-2 favorite. He romped by five lengths as the 1-2 favorite and now takes on winners for Randy Russell, who wins 38% first start after a maiden win.

2nd: (1) ZILLION – raced evenly going two turns against this allowance level the last three starts. He was second last out at 7-10 odds for Tim Girten, who wins 30% first start after being beaten as the favorite and at the same rate with his overall allowance runners.

3rd: (6) SHAKIN IT UP LARRY – finished up last year with a sharp maiden win then returned eight months later with a good second.

Race Eight:

1st: (4) BAROLA – broke her maiden here two starts back when stretched out to two turns. She came back with a good third against this conditioned claiming level when she raced wide from post nine. Avery Whisman wins 38% riding for Matt Kintz.

2nd: (1) TAMI’S ORCHID – drops down in class for her Tapeta debut. One-dimensional closer will be far back early, but this is the cheapest group she has ever faced. Daughter of Super Saver draws the rail and gets Pablo Morales.

3rd: (6) NOW PRAMELA – raced evenly in two sprints here then improved some when stretched out to two turns against these.
