Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for July 25

Race One:

1^st: (3) SIDE TRACKED – returned off a layoff here to beat one level better twice in a row then dropped down to this level and was a good second in slow time. Ron Potts wins 22% with his synthetic-track starters and 19% going long.

2^nd: (5) OUR DOMINATOR – beat this level there starts back then was third when moved up in class. After racing evenly last out, he drops down in class for Mike Rogers, who wins 19% going long and 29% when paired up with Addiel Ayala.

3^rd: (2) DAHOG – beat this level two starts back by a nose then was a good second when stuck behind a slow pace.

 

Race Two:

1^st: (7) MOTITO– did nothing in her career debut in a long sprint then stretched out to two turns and was a good second with blinkers added. The daughter of Kantharos came back with a better second last out and looks ready to graduate for Tim Girten.

2^nd: (6) KEYSTONE HANK – beat the top choice when he added Lasix then was an even third behind two next-out winners when he broke awkwardly. He lost all chance last out when bumped at the start and now stretches out to two turns.

3^rd: (4) HANFORD – has had 14 chances to break his maiden but drops back to state-bred company.

 

Race Three:

1^st: (5) ZERO GRAVITY – ran some big races here last year but came back this year with two poor efforts against optional claimers. He dropped down to this level last out and just missed for Matt Kintz, who wins 24% going long.

2^nd: (7) INCLUSIVE – lost all chance two starts back when he broke poorly from post one going six furlongs in blazing time. He came back against this level and was a good third behind the top choice when he finished full of run.

3^rd: (4) P H FACTOR – speedball from Larry Rivelli went gate to wire two starts back then tired last out when outkicked.

 

Race Four:

1^st: (9) SUMMER BOSS – went gate to wire to break his maiden here in his 11th try as the 11-10 favorite then came back and tired against winners. He moves up in class but can control the pace with Rocco Bowen, who wins 17% going long.

2^nd: (2) MARK THE MOOSE – did little in his first two starts this year then showed some pace next time out when dropped down to this claiming level. He showed better speed last out in a long sprint and now stretches back out for Ed Rojas.

3^rd: (8) CHOCOLATE PHILLING – took him 19 starts to break his maiden at the age of six when stretched out for the first time.

 

Race Five:

1^st: (6) FORGOTTEN PEACE – returned off the long layoff and missed by a nose as the 2-1 favorite going six furlongs. She came back there with a good second in an effort where she might have regressed off her seasonal debut.

2^nd: (5) PROPOSITION – speedball won her first three starts here last year against similar. She came back and tired in her seasonal debut then went gate to wire last out as the 17-10 favorite for Tim Girten, who wins 27% in first starts after a win.

3^rd: (3) SWEET SOUPER SWEET – pace stalker rallied strong in her last two starts for Mike Trombetta.

 

Race Six:

1^st: (7) TRAVELLER – held well to be second as the lukewarm favorite when stretched out to two turns then romped by over eight lengths in fast time when bet down to 1-5 odds. He was a good second last out when he stalked a very fast pace.

2^nd: (6) LIGHTNING CHARLIE – raced evenly off a series of sprint races this year then stretched out to two turns and went gate to wire to win easily. Randy Russell wins 38% of first starts after a maiden win and 23% with Alberto Burgos.

3^rd: (4) GOODIE GOOMER – beat optional claimers two starts back then chased stakes foes in a long sprint last out.

 

Race Seven:

1^st: (4) TACTICAL PAJAMAS – horse for the course tired two starts back then won going away when she sat just off the pace. Those were against open company allowance foes and now she takes on state-breds for Ron Potts.  

2^nd: (6) SAMURAI SONG – doesn’t win enough as she should since she is only 2-for-24 at the age of seven. But her last few starts going two turns were solid. When she gets involved in the race early, she can hang around for a long time.

3^rd: (1) LOVELY EVER AFTER – broke her maiden against open company then came back to just miss against state-breds.

 

Race Eight:

1^st: (1) NORTH CAROLINA – turf horse was claimed for $40,000 at Belmont, where he was a good second as the beaten favorite. He raced evenly in his next two starts off the claim by Linda Rice and now drops way down in class.

2^nd: (5) OLD FORTY FIVE – just missed against this maiden claiming level back in May then could not handle the move up in class. He was a good second last out when stretched out for the first time in decent time.   

3^rd: (8) BREWING STORM – still a maiden after 13 tries, but the last two against this maiden claiming level on the Tapeta were okay.
