Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for Monday, June 10, 2024
Dick Powell handicaps the Monday card at Presque Isle Downs.
Race One
1st: (2) LADY IN HEELS – tired badly on the dirt two starts back against better, then just missed against this claiming level on the Tapeta at Turfway Park last January. She has plenty of back class and gets Ron Allen Jr., who rode her before.
2nd: (6) TIZ PROMISING RVF – was a good second to finish up last season then ran for about five furlongs off the layoff going two turns. She drops a notch in class and gets Willie Martinez ,who shows a flat-bet profit with his last 80 claiming starters.
3rd: (3) LAWN DART – speedball went gate to wire two starts back and has won 11 times here.
Race Two
1st: (7) LADYS CHANT – has a decent second on the dirt at Tampa Bay Downs back in March, then did little next out. She was a good second last out here against this maiden claiming company for Maria Bowersock, who wins 14% at this maiden level.
2nd: (1) XERCES – was soundly beaten in her first four starts on the dirt at Parx, then came here and was an even fifth after breaking slowly from the rail. Tim Girten wins 15% going short to long. Antonio Gallardo rides.
3rd: (5) CHEERFUL TROUT – was a good second two starts back in her PID debut and draws outside with Martinez.
Race Three
1st: (3) KHOZANDO – won his PID debut two starts back here going a two-turn mile, then came back and got up by a neck going six furlongs when moved up to this claiming level. Kevin Rice wins 17% going short to long.
2nd: (1) RICHARD HOOTY – was outrun two starts in a row, then finished up last season with a good win going this distance. Matt Kintz wins 21% first start after a win and 17% off long layoffs. Scott Spieth rides back.
3rd: (2) CREATIVE CHOICE – just missed going gate to wire here at the end of last season, then won on debut here two weeks ago.
Race Four
1st: (3) MACKENZIE’S NOVVA – drops down in class off two even efforts here this year in fast time both times. Gerry Brooks wins 26% with this move and 20% third start off the layoff, but is 0-for-11 riding Addiel Ayala.
2nd: (8) INTERCHANGER – broke her maiden on the dirt at Finger Lakes to finish up last year, then returned here for his Tapeta debut and was an even fourth in good time going two turns.
3rd: (9) SNIP THE ROSES – was soundly beaten two starts in a row to finish last season, but came back and won last out.
Race Five
1st: (5) THE SINNER IS YOU – horse for the course is 12-for-25 here over the years. He came out this year and won first out going six furlongs in very fast time. Ed Rojas wins 31% first start after a win and 26% with his synthetic-track starters.
2nd: (4) CROSSTOWN SHOOTOUT – ran great on the Tapeta at Turfway with three straight wins, then was fourth on it at Gulfstream Park in his first start off the claim. Miguel Vasquez rides – 18% with his sprinters.
3rd: (6) GROUNDED – horse for the course has a very spotty record as far as scheduling with many breaks.
Race Six
1st: (4) FRED GEORGE – was soundly beaten in his first two career starts which came on the turf. He came here last out and just missed by a half-length going two turns for Kevin Rice, who wins 28% third start off the layoff.
2nd: (1) SECRET TREASURE – still a maiden after 11 tries. He made up some ground behind the top choice in his PID debut for Ron Potts, who wins 32% first start after being beaten as the favorite.
3rd: (3) STREAMSONG – woke up last out with a strong late rally that fell a half-length short. Pablo Morales gets aboard.
Race Seven
1st: (1) MEANT TO BE LUCKY – took him nine starts to break his maiden here going 5 1/2 furlongs, then came right back to beat conditioned claimers. He was second against these last out for John Bourke, who wins 24% second start off the layoff.
2nd: (3) NIGHT RIDE – returned to the races off the long layoff with an even effort. He keeps the blinkers on and drops down in class for Lance Stokes, who wins 13% with his claimers. Morales rides back.
3rd: (7) SMART JOKER – speedball romped last out on the dirt at Tampa Bay and makes his Tapeta debut.
Race Eight
1st: (9) CHANGE THE HOUR – still a maiden after 14 tries, all here, but has seven placings. He has strong early speed and comes back against the same state-bred maiden level for Randy Russell, who wins 12% in this spot.
2nd: (5) EMMA AT THE GATE – showed high speed for a half-mile before tiring in his well-bet career debut. That was against open company and this is against PA-breds, so he should improve in his second career start.
3rd: (2) EXCLUSIVE ENTRY – flashed high speed last out in his second start off the long layoff.
