Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for Oct. 13

October 13th, 2022

Race One:

1st: #2 RAINAS ROLLIN – just missed two starts back when she battled for the lead out of the gate at almost 18-1. She came back as the 7-5 favorite and led to the deep stretch and gets Gaddiel Martinez back — flat-bet profit with his last 190 sprint rides.

2nd: #1 GOLDBAR – was an even third in his well-bet career debut here for Mike Stidham, who wins 17% with his second-time starters and 23% of first starts after being beaten as the favorite. Son of Blame is a half-brother to a stakes winner.

3rd: #4 SLENDER BETSY – has had many chances but Kevin Rice removes blinkers and adds Erin Walker.

Race Two:

1st: #5 AULT – horse for the course just missed two starts back here going two turns then came back and went gate to wire. The 10-year-old son of English Channel returns off short rest for Shelly Radosevich, who excels with the old-timers.

2nd: #6 CRAZY KATER – has been running against much better company on the turf. He won three starts back then was off the board in his next two starts. He has won here before and is fit and ready off the dropdown.

3rd: #2 UNCLE ANDREW – has yet to win this year but drops way down in class while adding leading rider Pablo Morales.

Race Three:

1st: #2 MISSIN THE BIG DOG – has yet to win here in five tries, but they were all against much better company. He showed good speed two back on the turf at Colonial Downs then held well at Pimlico when moved up in class.

2nd: #5 SPIRIT ANIMAL – was a good second against $20K claimers back in May when making his Tapeta debut then did little on the turf against better company. He drops way down in class and should be fit from recent turf starts.

3rd: #7 PATROL – has won three of four starts here and makes his second start of the year off the long layoff.

Race Four:

1st: #5 SPICY SHOT – just missed in his seasonal debut here but then could not handle the move up in class. He dropped down to this class and distance last out and rallied wide to get up in time for Keith Dickey, who goes back to Alberto Burgos.

2nd: #1 BIG CHICKEN MAN– horse for the course won his seasonal debut and has run well in his last two starts with a close fourth and a win last out, when he dominated on the front end. Randy Russell wins 19% of first starts after a win.

3rd: #2 ATTUCK – has run well in three starts here and comes right back off a win on the dirt at Penn National.

Race Five:

1st: #8 FAST MULE – did nothing in her career debut here but came back against top maidens and rallied wide for second. That kept her with the same group, but she lost all chance with a clumsy start and now drops to maiden claimers for the first time.

2nd: #9 YOU LOOKING AT ME – made her career debut here against this maiden claiming level and gunned to the front and led every step but the last for John Fennessy, who wins 10% with his overall maiden claimers.

3rd: #3 E Z TOLL – raced evenly in a wide trip at 48-1 in her career debut but has trained well since then here.

Race Six:

1st: #3 RIVERSIDE WALK – beat this claiming level twice in a row going this distance. She moved up a notch in class and missed holding on by a head going five furlongs as the odds-on favorite. Pablo Morales rides back for Larry Hayes.

2nd: #6 LAWN DART – popular mare was claimed five times in her last nine starts. She had a couple of strong efforts against this level then dropped down to the bottom and won easily. She moves back up in class off the claim by Justin Morrell.

3rd: #2 GRAND MAMOO – horse for the course drops down some in class off a 122-day layoff for Randy Russell.

Race Seven:

1st: #4 IRISH DREAM GIRL – faced this claiming level for the first time two starts back and was a good second as the lukewarm favorite. She moved up in class last out and was an even third in very fast time.

2nd: #2 STARSHIP MACYS – speedball moves up in class after tiring two starts back. Three-year-old daughter of the late Laoban came back and romped on the front end to win by over six lengths as the 11-10 favorite. Mike Pappada wins 28% of first starts after a win.

3rd: #7 PERFECT HIDEAWAY – drops down from allowance ranks to $25K claimers for Todd Beattie.

Race Eight:

1st: #6 CHIC N WILBUR – ran fourth three times in a row here so they kind of gave up on him and dropped him to the bottom last out. He rallied for second as the odds-on favorite and now meets the same group in his first start off the claim by Ed Rojas.

2nd: #11 INCLUSIVE – winless in 12 tries here but they mostly came against better company. He rallied hard to get third last out in decent time for this class level so if he can run back to that level, he has a shot. Kris Fox picks up the mount.

3rd: #3 K. K. ICHIKAWA – one-dimensional closer was a good second last out rallying from far back.
