Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for Oct. 3
Race One:
1st: #1 HYMN’S SYLVIA – has been facing better in a series of turf sprints at Penn National when he came off a two-year layoff. 12-year-old has run here in the past and draws the rail with Pablo Morales.
2nd: #4 SAVE THE DRAMA – horse for the course has won 10 times with 24 other placings. He was outrun two starts in a row here then was dropped down to this conditioned claiming level and was an even fourth. Now, he switches to Addiel Ayala.
3rd: #6 ANOTHER SOFTBALL – is only 1-for-18 here lifetime but he has run some very competitive speed ratings.
Race Two:
1st: #5 LA PANDA – has had three starts over the track to begin her career and they all were good enough to compete here. Daughter of The Big Beast was a good second two starts back as the odds-on favorite then weakened last out.
2nd: #1 VIDEO STAR – showed high speed in her career debut here going six furlongs at 35-1 and now drops down in class and distance. Daughter of Street Boss draws the rail with Eddie Jurado back aboard.
3rd: #3 PARISIAN SUMMER – made her Tapeta debut two starts back and was an even fourth then rallied wide last out.
Race Three:
1st: #2 MIDNIGHT CHOIR – woke up some when she returned to the races off an 11-month layoff. She was a good second here against this maiden level then came back as the 3-2 favorite and showed good speed to the final furlong.
2nd: #3 JULIETTE FALLS – first-time starter from Lance Stokes who wins 17% with his debut runners. Daughter of J P’s Gusto (15% debut winners) is out of a dam by Pioneerof the Nile (12% debut winners) whose other foal to race is a winner.
3rd: #1 SHE’S REDNECKER – looks to be the best of the rest off a fourth behind the top choice last out.
Race Four:
1st: #6 SO MOXIE – just missed two starts back here against better then came back against the same level and lost all chance with an awkward start. She drops down in class for Carol Skawinski, whose last 91 synthetic-track starts show a flat-bet profit.
2nd: #1 LOOKING FOR LOVE – speedball breaking from the inside went gate to wire two of three starts, then tired next out when she had a big lead in the deep stretch. Daughter of Animal Kingdom gets Mike Allen back aboard.
3rd: #2 MADE TO HUSTLE – speedy filly drops way down in class off a decent effort here and in a turf sprint against better company.
Race Five:
1st: #5 QUARTERMASTER – rallied from off the pace to win going away against first-level allowance foes, then rallied for third in a stakes race here in fast time two weeks ago. John Bourke wins 19% with his synthetic-track starters.
2nd: #1 SAINT GOAR – showed good speed before weakening in his Tapeta debut, then raced evenly last out when moved way up in class. He gets some class relief and draws the rail with Ron Allen Jr. – 5-for-10 riding for Mike Pappada.
3rd: #2 FUEL THE BERN – won three in a row against all sorts of class level, then was an even fourth last out here in fast time.
Race Six:
1st: #1 SUN DADDY – takes a big drop in class off some very inconsistent efforts. He was a good second two starts back going a mile in very fast time, then did nothing going 1 1/8 miles against first-level allowance foes.
2nd: #4 SUMMER PALACE – was a game second against this claiming level three starts back, then did little next out. He bounced back with a strong rally for third last out, and leading rider Pablo Morales sticks with him.
3rd: #7 SPEED WAY – won going 5 1/2 furlongs, then raced evenly against this class and distance.
Race Seven:
1st: #2 JUSTA WARRIIOR – won her first two career starts on dirt including a good stakes race from post 11, then could not overcome the wide draw going two turns in a Grade 3 stakes at Churchill Downs. Daughter of Justify adds blinkers.
2nd: #3 BACK TO OHIO – won her career debut here by over three lengths as the 4-5 favorite. She came back with two strong efforts on the dirt in Ohio for Larry Rivelli, who wins 32% against this stakes level and 31% first start after a win.
3rd: #6 GRAND OAK – has had five starts and has already been to Royal Ascot. Daughter of Speightstown makes her Tapeta debut.
Race Eight:
1st: #3 GOLDEN SURVIVOR – after breaking his maiden here going six furlongs, he has raced well against better and now drops down in class for Matt Kintz, who wins 19% first start out of his barn and 17% with his overall claimers.
2nd: #4 MY BOY BLUE – made a strong surge to the lead in the deep stretch before weakening here last out in his PID debut. He drops down in class and gets Gaddiel Martinez, who wins 16% in sprints and the last 172 show a flat-out profit.
3rd: #11 AMERICAN CHAOS – has run well in all five starts here without winning. Katy Cheeks only has four wins, but gets Morales.
