Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for Oct. 5
Race One:
1st: #6 SPARKLING WATER – was a game second two starts back here in her Tapeta debut against better maidens. She came back and tired after a half mile so now she drops down to maiden claimers for Kevin Fletcher, who wins 19% at this maiden level.
2nd: #3 CALL ME PEAK – returned to the races off an eight-month layoff with a good third then came back and showed good speed to the deep stretch. He takes another leap up in class and his early speed could be dangerous.
3rd: #4 CEREAL I D – was soundly beaten in her first two career starts then faced similar next out and was a good second.
Race Two:
1st: #4 HIGH DOLLAR DATE – has been showing good speed on the turf at Delaware Park. She held on for second two starts back there then tired badly after six furlongs. She drops down in class for Ricky Hendriks, who wins 24% going turf to synthetic.
2nd: #8 TRACKER JACKER – almost went gate to wire two starts back as the beaten favorite then rallied from just off the pace to break her maiden going away. She faces winners from a wide post but looks to have enough gate speed to overcome it.
3rd: #1 SCOOP THERE IT IS – drops down in class off three recent starts here going two turns against better.
Race Three:
1st: #5 IDEAL BREEZE – has raced here four times and showed talent each time against first-level allowance foes. She showed good speed last out and won by a head as the 13-10 favorite. John Guciardo wins 13% of first starts after a win and gets Gaddiel Martinez.
2nd: #1 SPANISH DELIGHT – was a sharp winner here in her Presque Isle debut going six furlongs then was an even fourth in very fast time. She raced evenly in her next two starts and drops in class for Carol Skawinski, whose last 79 sprint starters show a flat-bet profit.
3rd: #4 PROPOSITION – showed high speed in very fast time two starts back then tired on the dirt at Penn National last out.
Race Four:
1st: #4 BLUE SKY’S ABOVE – horse for the course was a game gate-to-wire winner last out going this distance in sensational time. She rarely puts two races together like that, but if she breaks running here she could be long gone.
2nd: #2 LEAVEITALONELARRY – rallied from just off the pace to miss by a length two starts back then was no match for the top choice last out. Larry Hayes wins 18% with his sprinters and goes with Walber Alencar again.
3rd: #8 CAPTAIN MAD JACK – has a 35-5-9-9 record here for Shelly Radosevich and gets Antonio Gallardo.
Race Five:
1st: #10 ZIP CODE ENVY – was a game winner behind a next-out winner in her career debut. She came back with an even third as the 7-10 favorite for Tim Hamm, who wins 27% in this spot and 22% with his overall synthetic-track starters.
2nd: #2 HEAVENLY HASH – raced evenly in her career debut here going this distance in good time, and if she improves like many second-time starters do, she’ll be a factor. Ryan Walsh adds blinkers and goes with Erin Walker again.
3rd: #3 GIRL AFRAID – showed good speed going two turns in her two starts here and now turns back to a sprint for Matt Kintz.
Race Six:
1st: #1 DAKOTA DANCER – should be the one to catch after she broke her maiden here then ran well against allowance foes. At almost 20-1, she held on grimly against stakes company two weeks ago for Kevin Rice, who is 3-for-10 with Gaddiel Martinez.
2nd: #4 CRYSTAL SHIP – broke her maiden second time out going six furlongs in fast time. She missed by a length against this level last out and tries them again for John Bourke, who wins 20% going long off two sprints.
3rd: #6 GEORGETOWN ROAD – ran well in the slop two starts back then showed high speed breaking her maiden here going six furlongs.
Race Seven:
1st: #5 HE’S A MESS – won two in a row going six furlongs then a mile. He raced evenly the next out then was a game second against open company allowance foes. Back to state-breds, he’ll be tough if Kris Fox can get him to the lead.
2nd: #1 RIO ABAJO – horse for the course was a sharp winner going six furlongs in blazing time two starts back then failed to go gate to wire as the 7-5 favorite. Ed Rojas wins 24% of first starts after being beaten as the favorite and gets Pablo Morales back.
3rd: #6 JEN’S SONG – horse for the course was a good third going this distance against these.
Race Eight:
1st: #2 FEAR THE DEER – put blinkers back on and showed good speed going two turns on the turf at Colonial Downs. He came here for his Presque Isle debut and held well for third against this conditioned claiming level as the tepid favorite.
2nd: #1 MARK THE MOOSE – has been up and down the class ladder and finally drops way down off two recent fourths. This is the lowest claiming price he has raced for and should be able to work out a trip from post one.
3rd: #5 GOODTIME ARTIE – one-dimensional closer just missed from post 10 in a wide trip against this class level.
